Anyone have good suggestions on family type activities (eg things to see or visit or do) while we are holidaying around Cairns. We will be there for approx 2-3 weeks.

A day trip out to Green island is great and very safe for your kids. Otherwise you can go out on the Outer Barrier Reef on their platform for lunch.

A couple of activities that haven't been mentioned that would be on my favourites list:
White water rafting on the Tully River
Sailing out to the Great Barrier Reef on a pearling lugger
Hiring a car and visiting the Atherton tablelands

when you arrive to Cairns most of hotels have got a lots of leaflets, brochures etc... of things to while you are there. personally, i went scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking and walking around Cairns and nearby islands.
