What is the mazimum weight and linear dimentions of luggage that you are allowed to carry on a plane with you, and how many pieces of luggage (and purses, etc) can you carry on?

I know it's a nice place because I've lived there all my life, but I need an outsider, someone from say.. downsouth or states in the west to give me their opinion. I am going to Cancun this week coming up with my boyfriend and his family. I have a horse and we both love horses and decided that horseback riding on the beach would give us time to spend together away from his family and everything.
