Amira is right! 'TATKAL' is the option for you if you need a passport immediately. Here's what you need to provide:
1. Application form filled with 8 photographs (light background)
2. Proof of address
3. A recommendation letter from an IAS officer (holds more weight to your case)
4. Document to prove your need to travel immedaitely (like a business invitation, an invite for a wedding etc)
Note: You are required to personally submit the papers in order to apply on TATKAL basis. Travel agents are not permitted to do so!

Go to the post office with a picture from Kinko's, or a similar store. take your original birth cert. You will be asked to fill out a document, pay the normal fee plus the expedite fee. you will then visit with an officer and pledge that everything you've filed out is correct. you will get your pass port within 2 weeks, if you want to make sure you get in a timely manner contact your local us congressman and they have someone in their office that is dedicated to helping in situations like this. They will contact a congressional liaison in the passport/state office and make sure you get that asap.

They have TATKAL SERVICE where you pay 1500 INRs - 10 days plus additional fee for passport
You have to provide proof Why do you need it urgently, If you are travelling overseas then provide Job offer proof.
Never go to agents, the process might be delayed.

need to head down to your passport office. Try your local town to find out where it is. You are going to pay a bundle to get it that quick if its even possible!
