I know it's a nice place because I've lived there all my life, but I need an outsider, someone from say.. downsouth or states in the west to give me their opinion. I say this only because the tourist I see are so in awe of New York and constantly taking pictures like they've never been in a big city before.

I grew up in Boston and now live in Raleigh, NC. I've been all over the world but my favorite place in the world is New York City. I have visited it all of my life (in fact I just came home from NYC yesterday...I spent 4 days in Soho.)

New York City is simply the greatest city in the world. It has everything and everybody. Nothing is fake...it is all genuine. The history, the cultures, the architecture, the transportation system, the museums, statues, parks, silly things, odd things, sad things, pop culture, the noted and famous personalities...even my Avatar...who was born in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn...are within virtual walking distance in New York.

It's an amazing city...imagine what folks felt like visiting Rome in 50 A.D....that's what New York City is like.

Well, anyone who grows up somewhere doesn't find much excitement in it. That's how it is. I'm from Santa Cruz, and I meet all kinds of people who think I'm nuts for leaving, because they think it's some paradise. Obviously I don't see it that way, because I grew up there.

Personally, I find New York to be an incredible place, as well. It most definitely is one of the most fantastic cities on this earth. But of course you don't feel the same, you've always lived there! Haha.

i am from chicago, which is a big city, but new york is just breathtaking. everyday, i see high rises out of my window and there are tons of people on the street. however, ny is like a different world. it is so fascintating to see that all of these things are within 13 miles of each other and that it is surrounded by water. plus, no one has anything like times square. or the fact that there is this massive park dropped in the middle of such a metropolitan area.

because it really is the best city in the world. it has a different atmosphere to anywhere else. everything is so big that you are swallowed up by the atmosphere. also when i went i hadn't been to a big city so it was just amazing. it might be the same effect of you going in to the country, where you may be fascinated by the empty and tranquil scenery but people who live there (me) hate the boredom and could only wish to be in nyc.

im a native new yorker and while i LOVE this city, i dont understand the fascination either. i personally think Barcelona, Aix, alot of European cities are so much more interesting and fun compared to NY but I just think its because i dont live there. when i was in Spain i met a couple of Canadians from Toronto and when i told them i was from New York.. wow you shouldve seen the look in their eyes. They were like honored to be in the presence of a New Yorker. I honestly dont get it, but when i travel i definitly use it to my advantage.

I know. Me neither. I've lived in NY my whole life too and I don't find anythng so good about it. Maybe it's because we're so used to this plce because NY is among one of the biggest cities in the world and many states don't have big cities.

I think it's all relative. For our country, it's a pretty neat city. But compared to some European cities, NYC just doesn't stand up.
