Every time I begin a running regiment, I get horrible shin splints. How can this be avoided? If stretching is the answer, what stretches do I need to do? Help! It hurts!

does any one elses high school coaches make them lift a lot for track? Cuz our workout is usually like running 20 -30 minutes then he makes us go lift for like 1 and a half to 2 hours and it apparently hasnt helped our team cuz we never win. But i dont see any point in having to lift so much cuz it cant really affect your running that much. I think we should jsut run more and do weights less. Im just wondering how much you guys do at practice for running and lifting.

So to get rid of my last few pounds that wont seem to go away, I joined the track team in hope that it will work. So my first day was friday. Every day I go to the gym and run there and do ALOT of muscle work and cardio, etc. plus I used to run track and play hockey so I thought it'd be easy.

WELL...it wasnt. I was always in the back. Everything felt so heavy and the air was very cold. My chest felt like it was gonna cave it.

I always breathe in through my nose, out through my mouth but when I was running track I just couldnt no matter how hard I tried. We ran six 500s at a steady pace but I don't know why it was so hard!

What should I do? I wanna run so I can loose more weight and I dont wanna be behind and even though it was my first say can anyone give me any insight on what to do? some sort of training I can do? Any sort of help will be appreciated!

I am a 9th grade girl (14 yrs. old) running the 400m. My time now is 1:11, but i really want to get it down under 1 min. by the end of the season. Any tips/tricks? I just got in my cleats, and that time was without them, so maybe i will be able to drop a second off. What would be a reasonable time to get? I can run the 200m in 30.1 seconds so i don't know how reasonable doing the 400m in <60 will be. What are your times?

Thanks

I'm a semi-serious 22 year old male runner who wants to train for a half marathon someday. If/when that happens, my target would be eighty minutes flat (slightly about 6 minute miles).

In my gym, people always have fans blowing in the workout room. I've noticed when these fans are aimed at me I don't seem to sweat (or it is dried off quickly) when I am running. Is this good, bad, or don't care? I seem to recall reading somewhere it might be bad but I can't remember exactly. Thanks.

i am 30 years old and walk at 3.2 miles per hour. I am five feet three inches tall. i was told to run at 5.5 miles per hour, but that is too fast for me. i just dont think i was given good advice, becaise i have trouble breathing and my face turns red at that pace. i have tried very hard to keep up this pace, but it is not good for me.

i am now running at 4.5 miles per hour and complete one mile without difficulty. i am somewhat of a beginner runner, however i work out a lot-- lift weights and walk a lot etc. maybe 4x per week?

does 4.5 miles per hour and doing one mile sound like a good beginning strategy for someone of my height? i am 5'3.

i am self conscious because i think my height and body type are not predisposed for running activities. i dont have a running type of figure. i just want to know where i am in regard to other people of my height age and fitness level. i used to be in track and cross country as a child and i always felt people run better than me.

thank you.

I got an Ironman Triathlon 50-lap sleek watch (Here: http://www.timex.com/gp/product/B000AYSH42/ref=sc_pgb_c_4_1_238512011_m_A1S5XB33AHYRMX_2/002-6010105-5828014?ie=UTF8&n=238512011&s=&timexBrand=core&v=glance ) from my parents for my birthday last year, and of course, my mom got the one with the elastic band, instead of the rubbery one, which is better because it doesn't come un-elasticy (also, the rubbery band is better because it doesn't chaff as much when I run. So, I've been looking around on the internet, since the band can come off, and I've been trying to find a replacement band that's not elastic. Anyone ever found one? Because I really like the watch (other than the band) and would kind of like to keep it, despite the fact that the band broke. It's like a size...I want to say 9 or 8 mm band. Thanks much!
