So, I have this 1 inch blister on teh side of my heel from my work shoes and a long day. My running shoes do not hurt it, but it did get bigger from my workout today. i don't want to break it while out on a run, so whaddya think? I know the proper technique for breaking it, but should I just leave it be?

i usually run the 400m, 4x100m, 4x400, and 200m, but i've noticed that i'm ok with the speed and what i need to work on is my endurance. I thought that i should join the xc team next fall and i talked to the long distance coach and she gladly said that i should join xc, but then i asked my sprinting coach if i should run xc and he said that if i did that it would ruin my "quick twitch" muscles ...

i'm not sure what to do, because i want to improve my endurance and i want to join xc, but i dont want to make my coach mad

please help me

My school's 7th & 8th grade track team started practicing a week ago, and I didn't go to the practices because I was too busy working on a project that we had been assigned. I have been running on a treadmill as regularly as possible (about every other day, rotating between that and an elliptical) since about Christmastime, running an average of a mile each time at about 6 mph. However, my friends on the team have said that they run about 2 miles every practice followed by sprints, regardless if they signed up for sprinting or distance, which I am more than fairly certain I can't run on a whim. On top of that, I became a vegetarian in October, which causes me to be lacking a lot of energy at the end of the day. Would it be useless for me to consider running track?

I have flat feet. Before I got fitted for orthotics, I wore a high stability and motion control shoe to compensate for the overpronation. Now that I have and use an orthotic, can I use any type of running shoe -- i.e. more cushioned shoe as opposed to stability?

How would you make your legs stronger without running. Like exercises in the house? Would leaning against the wall and pretending to be sitting on a chair help? Or is that just thighs?
Good exercises for runners.

OK so this is my first year doing track and im a sophmore in high school. i'm decided to do the 800 meters. during a time trial i did about 4 weeks ago, my time was 3:02 (pretty bad). and then in our first track meet a week ago i got 2:52, and then this week's meet i got 2:47 but for some reason i feel like that's still pretty slow. any advice? my goal is to try to get down to 2:20-2:30.

When first beginning track, does the right type of shoe make you a better/faster runner, or do they really not make that much of a difference, unless you are running for time? I know it's more about endurance and the right techniques, but are running shoes really necessary or will regular tennis shoes do when you're first starting out?

I have been running in Asics Gel Nimbus VII's and loved them, but I really need to replace them. Yesterday I bought the new version (Nimbus VIII's) and they suck... no cushioning!!! Are there any shoes out there comparable to the Nimbus VII's?

I am a runner and sometimes get urges for bowel movements either during or immediately after my run. I've heard of "runner's trot" and that the the port-o-john can make or break it for some seasoned marathoners. I just don't want this embarassing urge to strike during my races. Will an enema a several hours before the race help?

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a weakening of the wrist from repetitive motion; I have the same thing in the heel of my foot (from hauling old concrete around for a few weeks last summer). Lots of healing has occured, but 8 months after the injury the bottom of my heel is still numb. Anyone had a similar experience?
It is not Plantar Fasciitis; been there, done that (twice).

(A) Gradually increase current 5K training speed from 7.2 kph to 10.2 kph over a period of 6 months, or (B) up speed immediately from 7.2 kph to 8.8 kph on next 5K training run (gasp!) and maintain for 6 months interspersed with interval training once a week (gasp!!), plus an 8-10K easy run once every fortnight at 6.8 kph, or (C), just do the easy run every other day for the next 6 months, with one such run in each month incorporated with speed-recovery / hill-recovery cycles (gasp!!!). Need your good advice, brothers and sisters on the run. Thanks.
