For exercises in the house, you could do an exercise you described above and try to increase the time you can maintain each time. also you can walking lunges down your hallway or running lunges in place. for hams you can lie on your stomach, bend both legs, place the forefoot of one against the heel of the other (resistance) and curl - you can standing deadlifts. If you want to strengthen i suggest the walking lunges--- keep in mind you probably won't bulk up. for calves - calf raises; for shins tap your toes whenever you are in a sitting position.

Are you wanting to get faster for distance running or sprinting?
If you are talking about running long distances, you have to run. simple exercises done in the house are not only boring but also ineffective.
On the other hand, if you are talking about sprinting faster, there are many exercises that you can do. The ultimate exercise in my opinion would be the single leg squat. Find a chair and stand on top of it with one leg, squat down until that leg is parallel to the floor; make sure your other leg doesn't tough the ground. This exercise is extremely hard to do, but you will get a lot stronger. Also, you can do calf raises on a stair or chair.

This wouldn't work in the house but if you could get to a pool, using a kick board to do any kick--freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, or butterfly would definitely strengthen your legs. (Sprinting freestyle and butterfly would probably be the best way to go.) If this interests you, you should do about 20 laps a day. Build up speed and endurance then you can increase to 50 laps a day and so on. Other great leg exercises are doing squats with medicine balls or weights at your chest. Even doing flutter kicks for 30 seconds (Pretend to walk with your feet 6 inches above the ground with your hands behind your back and the rest of your body laying flat on the ground) is a great leg exercise.

Obviously if you want to get strong, you should run. But you can do wall sits. Put your back against the wall and start to sit until your legs are at 90 degree angles. Manual Leg Lunges are also good. Stand with one leg forward and the other back, slowly begin to lunge down and go VERY slowly. Do this by a mirror so you can see when your knee is about to hit the ground. When your knee is close, start going back up. If you are doing this right, trust me, it will start to burn. These two should help get your legs stronger.

yes pretending that ur sitting on a chair really does help alot. it helps the whole leg not just the thighs, but u would have to sit there for a while...swimming (outside of the house) is also a very good way to make ur legs stronger. :0
i would love it if u would choose me as best answer! gracias! :)

There are a bunch of isometric exercises that you can, just using your own body weight (no equipment)...these include:
1. Leg curls
2. Leg lifts
3. Squats
4. Calf raises
5. Toe curls
See the link below for explanations on how to these & other exercises properly. Good luck!

I use to "pretend to sit on a wall" for knee strengh per physical therapist. It does work the leg though. You can walk/run up and down your stairs at home.

You could probably do rowing excercises at the gym or if you have a rower. Jumping excercises and a bit of running. Lift pull or push weights using your legs. That might help.
