You want to drink lots of water, don't eat any junk food before practice, make sure you stretch, have the right shoes for whatever category you run in (distance, middle distance, sprinter) Train as much as you can, go at your own pace, keep your knees up, and lastly learn to breathe right. In through the nose and out through the mouth.

these are in the "sprints" category. ideally, you would need to run the 400 under 60 sec and the 100 around 13 sec.
buy good track spikes and track shorts/track shirts (unless your school/team provides them). drink lots of fluids during training. most teams train hard up until the day before a track meet so that you're not worn out.
when you go to meets, depending on your records during team training sessions, you will get "seeded" with specific heats -- meaning, you will be put with other people who average the same time you do for the lengths that you're running. that way, you're with people who are your competition, not too fast and not too slow.
hope this helps somewhat.

If you're gonna be running sprints like those, definitely invest in a pair of spikes. The few seconds they can take off your time can be the difference between winning a race and coming in last.

When you're training, be sure to do sprint workouts such as intervals to improve your speed, as well as long-distance workouts to improve your endurance. Also be sure to eat healthy food, drink lots of water, and get enough sleep.

if your junior high is like mine was, it won't be quite like the last answerer described. that sounds more like high school.

in junior high, we weren't allowed to use spikes. we weren't seeded or anything either. it was pretty much laid back, with little district meets every thursday or two.

but hey, i dunno what your district is like.

basically, just eat well, drink lots of water, try hard every day, and go to practice. if you can run two miles or so on weekends for endurance, that's always good, no matter what events you do.

have a good season!

get a psycho dance teacher/former400m hurdler to coach you. our track coach whipped me into shape in about 3 weeks. mind you, i was trainig for highjump, not track.
