I am interested in taking a Martial Arts classes any suggestions?
I am a 32 year old female with "stage fright" I am confident in some aspects of my life, but know I would lack confidence in a class like this due to my nervousness.. It would be nice to find something to help build my confidence, and something that would help me with self defense, and fitness.. but nothing where I am treated bad or yelled at! Any suggestions? I found out that only Karate and Judo are offered.. Would Karate be a good choice?

Can anyone give a non-wikipedia description of the following arts preferably if you train under it. I'm looking for a little background info, what it focuses on(soft or hard art, linear or circular motions, striking, grappling, or weapons etc...), and any strengths and weakness you see in the art(in general)

escrima
hapkido
japanese jujutsu
ninpo(bujinkan)
sambo
tai chi
tangsoodo
wing chun

thanks

is it weapons martial arts, hand-to-hand comabt, both? Is it based on the learning curve? the environment itself? Or how useful it can be in actual situations? Or is it just a hobby, or something to do to strengthen your mind and soul?

I was searching for a Krav Maga class in St.Catharines, ON. There are no classes. So I was hoping someone could tell me what would bring most of those skills in another martial art, like gun+knife disarming. If anyone knows please tell me :)

Dan.

My cat has scared of all local competition and walks around like he's the hardest thing since bruce lee. I want to tell him he's just a big fish in a small pond but he gets too exited when I use the F word.
Is there a cats UFC where he could be brought down a peg or two.

I used to live in California at one time and I noticed a good number of Chinese MA clubs. Run by people of Chinese ancestry. If China's Emperor were to visit California, what kind of reception would he get from the Chinese community in California and also from the many martial arts groups there?

wont say the reasons but we started by trading punches and kicks at each other but end up going on the ground tryin to choke and armlock each other while throwin the occasional shot with neither of us gaining any real advantage.it lasted for abt 5 min before 2 guys came forward to break us up.after that i was using every effort to stand up and i felt totally exhausted.my metabol rate was ard 1700 and i can run for 40min straight and my opponent was slightly bigger built than me but i sense that he too was tired by not going at me again.i mean i hav seen no hols barred fights that can last for up to 1 hr.just how do i get that kind of fitness?

I am sure that this question has come up many times in martial arts forums, but I am new here and I don't remember what the true answer would be. So, who is better and why?

I found this quite remarkable. I love this guy and I always will.

Physical feats

Lee's phenomenal fitness meant he was capable of performing many exceptional physical feats. The following list are the physical feats that are documented and supported by reliable sources.

* Lee's striking speed from three feet with his hands down by his side reached five hundredths of a second.[48]
* Lee could spring a 235lb opponent 15 feet away with a 1 inch punch.[47]
* Lee's combat movements were at times too fast to be captured on film at 24fps, so many scenes were shot in 32fps to put Lee in slow motion. Normally martial arts films are sped up.[49][50][51]
* In a speed demonstration, Lee could snatch a dime off a person's open palm before they could close it, and leave a penny behind.[52]
* Lee could perform push ups using only his thumbs[40][47]
* Lee would hold an elevated v-sit position for 30 minutes or longer.[46]
