➔ Martial Arts
martial arts should teach a lifestyle that our kids need? A school program maybe ? China hasone, and we do have alot of school shootings etc. now. Imagine if these kids were not picked on, but rather respected. many outsider kids tend to like Martial Arts, why not have it at schools in a good program?

that is cool, shogun school is doing a great thing. and kids will come and go I agree, but how many will stay? Martial arts are probably the most interesting thing today, why not use that interest to our kids advantage? Cool to see.

Kids in America need more than martial arts. Martial arts may help but it is not the answer.
Children need strong family structure.
Martial arts helps good kids, it doesn't help kids be good.
A child has to WANT to be good and do good. It cannot be forced on them by a Sensei. Martial arts teaches self-discipline to those willing to learn it. Those who are not willing just become another statistic.

A close friend of mine drove a different way home from from work because of street construction. The route he took had him driving right by the local school. As soon as he got home he called me in disbelief. He could not believe how many of the kids were over weight. With school out for the day, kids all over the front of the school and sidewalk he saw a good cross section of the students.Virtually all were over weight.
When I was a kid we all were on our bikes,up a tree,running here,climbing there,etc.
Today's kids sit on the couch and play video games or spend time on the computer and watching TV.
The home cooked meals of yesterday are gone and have been replaced with fast foods and microwave meals.
Combine inactivity with fast and fatty foods, now add poor education where kids are passed on to the next grade even if they did poorly, give them some Prozac or Zoloft and you wind up with some very screwed up kids.
The days of most kids being fit, lean as hound dogs,as well as smart bright problem solvers are over.
Things have been allowed to slide so far down the tubes that Martial Arts alone will not turn things around.
First get the parents squared away, then the schools, then "maybe" you have a chance to get the kids back on track.
I do practice what I preach,I am 5'6" 136 lbs.,I wear the same size clothes as in High School...I am 51 years old.

1.)
Learning discipline and accountability is a step in the right direction for everyone. Martial arts has both but isn't the answer for everyone.
There is a very direct relationship to 'effort out/ results in' MA. If you focus on what you do and try hard, you get better. It doesn't matter if you are talking about front kicks, long division, or gaining equity.
However, martial arts are not for everyone. I can think of lots of folks that have started and stopped training since I started. It wasn't their thing and they have moved on to something else. The point is they are doing something.
2.)
Except for a few medical conditions, people gain weight most effectively by combining bad diet with lack of exercise. This is fueled by a condition called laziness. This is no secret, nor is the cure. Stop trying to find some other cause. This isn't cause of economy or war or the president. Take some accountability for your own actions and educate everyone you care about.

In order to have programs like that in public schools, you have to be a partner in education with them. Shogun fight school has recently started inquiring at schools about this and we have our first class at a middle school in Orlando tomorrow. We are teaching them Capoeira and hopefully in the future we can show them more disciplines. Unfortunately martial arts has become so commercial that it makes it hard to instil in these kids respect and discipline without adding in what they see in the movies. We are trying to find the balance.

Actually, there is a common link with all of the kids who have been involved in these "senseless" acts...
Institutionally imposed mood enhancing drugs like Ritalin and all the others.
This info is always left out of the news reports because the pharmaceutical companies pay big money for it.
Do your research. Every single case. You will see. Check out this video if you don't believe it...

You said it. Not enough real interaction with people. Too much inward focus. Constant focus on violent unreality.
Junk food, Junk education. Lack of exercise. What do you expect? Even animals treated like that will act out in strange ways.
Good call..
