It is one of favorite fighting scenes and I just wondered what the real style of fighting is that Yasuaki Kurata uses. Is it Karate?

Kurata-San is really a Shito Ryu practitioner and also holds a BB in Judo.

He speaks fluid Chinese and is a great MA actor as well.

But he is the real deal.

The techniques you saw were all choreographed of course. I love to see him in movies. Check him out in "legend of a fighter", which is a movie based on Ho Yuan Chia's upbringing. I don't know how factual it is but is a great movie.

His character in Fist of Legend was awesome.

It's supposed to be Karate since Kurata's character was a Japanese master, henced it utilized a lot of Shuto or open handed strikes and some elements of Jujitsu, but since the fight choreographer was Yuen Woo Ping of "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" and "The Matrix" trilogy fame, it can't be helped that Kurata's style in the movie would be infused with acrobatic Wushu movements.
