Grappling arts would seem to be the choice, some suggestions: judo, brazilian jujitsu, wrestling, sambo.

Bear in mind that throws could potentially damage your head, so maybe Brazilian jujitsu is the one, as it emphasizes on ground grappling.

good luck!

hi there no prob . im a 24 year old female who is attending my older bros co owned martial arts place. He teaches the kids karate and the adults and teens martial arts (two different forms). Try it you will see that its a great exercise and you will learn alot from it. I had to loose weigh myself I was way overweight and felt that something had to be done now. Ive lost 30 pounds and then some and I contine to loose more each time. I am very dedicated to this and I am currently on my way to earning orange belt!!!! =) First you learn the basics you will start at the beginners stage and then progress and each step of a belt you learn new forms. You some times will have to incorporate the new forms into the old forms as you go up in rank. You will most likely take belt tests if they have belts. some places also have quizzes as do my bros place which is no biggie if you know what youre doing in the first place. Its just to make sure you know all the stuff that youve been practicing from that time you started to learn the form or move from the quiz time. You wont be able to get help with the quizes and testing during those times. You will need to know what youre doing and do it properly and efficiently. Just let the instructors know of any injuries and they will make note of it. So you wont be able participate in sparring and head locks that type of things when you get to that level. I would recommend going to a well known martial arts studio and ask the instructors about the class. Watch the classes and ask if you can join in to see what its going to like during a class. Its a blast !!! Very rewarding yet exhausing but thats a good thing it means youre exercising and changing youre self in to a more disciplined individual. Hope you will join and have fun!

Judo or Ju-jitsu would be good grappling arts for you to take and not all schools and instructors allow shots to the head and face like are allowed in tournaments and fighting. Even stand-up martial arts is an option really if the instructor is a good one and maintains control over the contact and what is going on. I currently have a student in his early 30s that has had several strokes and on blood thinners. He can get into trouble medically if he bleeds internally and not be aware of it so we limit the contact for him during sparring. Shop around, watch classes at all of them that you are considering, and the amount and type of contact and talk to the instructor and see if he can make allowances for you and your medical problem. If he can and he maintains good control of things, has good students who pay attention and practice good safe aspects who themselves want to avoid senseless, stupid training injuries then you have found your place.

Kung Fu San Soo. Great workout when done right. Actually, any mixed martial art...Jiu Jitsu is a good idea too.
