I am looking to get into shape. I also want to be able to defend myself should I ever need to. I want something hands on and that I can put 110% into. Something more physical and not just moves. What do you recommend and why? Thanks

i wish i knew some self defense. When i was 5 took a karate class in camp. When i was 13 (i am 15 now), i was at the bus stop waiting for my cousins bus to come so i could take her home and watch her until her mother got home from work. Then suddenly some guy I've seen maybe once or twice came up to me and began asking me really strange questions. He looked about late 30's, early 40's. He was saying stuff like "how old are you?" and "Where do you go to school?"I was a little weirded out especiall when he said "You are really pretty." Then he asked my did i want to go to his house and i said no and tried to walk away, but he wouldn't let me leave. Everywhere i tried to go he stepped in my way. i started hyper ventalating and finally he asked "can i at least have a hug?" i said no and he left. my cousins bus finally came and i put her on my back (she's 7) and ran home trying not to show her my teary face. When i got home my grnadma called the cops... (continued in added details).......

most people only pay lip service to their martial art. They think of it as an external practice. I think you should trust your martial art and fight alongside with it. Most traditionals learn all those form then when they fight they jsut use basic kickboxing.

This is a bit hard to explain......but i think people need to absorb their martial in mind ,body ,and spirit....and i dont mean anything zen...but as far as combat goes...it kinda hard what im tring to say..i cant find the right words....does anyone get what im saying

I mean, when you are trying out new clubs, you may have a pink with green spots belt in your style of, let say karate, but to broaden your style you may go to another karate class, they ask you what youve done before, would you tell them your belt, or give "iv done a little bit" answer.

why would you give the answer?

Also to people youve never met, who happen to know that you do MA (through a friend say) do you tell them what belt you are when they ask?

Thank you very much

Im 165lbs, 6' tall. I've been training for underground boxing/kickboxing matches, mostly being influenced by Muay Thai. My opponent is roughly 150lbs about 5'8" - 5'9" and is a very agressive-styled boxer. I've watched a few of his fights, most of which he just goes at his opponent and then lowers his facing giving constant fast hooks. He's pretty expereinced in boxing, but didnt do any form of kick boxing / MMA yet. Rules are normal Muay Thai Kickboxing styled rules (Kicks, Knees, Elbows, and Punches,... no take downs, submissions, etc).

Can I have advice on what to do? Im extremely quick w/ very good footwork, but due to this being my first competition Im just out looking for advice. Im thinking about going for a flying knee, or when he comes at me and does his usual "lower the head and face and then constant fast hook" tactic, just start throwing knees or uppercuts... what are your thoughts?

Now is the time it seems. After thousands of years there is finally a forum created where fighters representating a large majority of the entire world can set to prove who is ultimately superior-- and the Master's are nowhere to be found. ?
Finally an ample opportunity is provided them to give the rest of the world a glimpse of what they've been preaching for years.
I don’t understand why they are not taking advantage of this great opportunity to show first hand what the Oriental arts are about. What's even more perplexing to me is that the Master's still take the effort to continue talking about the art of fighting and fight theory when there is an open space provided them to actually demonstrate it live and in person. ?? Please some insight from Oriental Martial arts disciples would be appreciated as I just don't get it.

I've worked alot on my stand-up. I'm currently a third degree black belt in taekwondo and I have some really nasty leg kicks. I'm 5'8, 200 pounds, and believe it or not, i squatted over 520 pounds on a powerlifting meet! I was a powerlifter back in the old days. However, a friend of mine told my I suck at wrestling. Any suggestions before I join the MMA?

How difficult is this discipline to learn? I'm a fit man of 25 and after hearing that Bourne uses this style in the Bourne films, I think I'd like to try and learn it, is it very intensive? Tell me what you know! If there are any people who actually do this technique I'd like to hear from you, and what you think on it.
