Very expensive cheap production imo

If the UFC's rising demographic is women....... you can kiss the entire production good bye.

calm down heather, yes it does. When the UFC becomes a soap opera or starts getting featured on the TVguide channel you know it is going down hill.

heather it is fine if you want to be that .0001 percent of the population that wants women to be butches. But remember, that is .0001 percent of the population. And that doesnt sell.

It was a fad on it's way to jumping the shark by the time the first Ultimate Fighter series finished airing.

A fad? Yes to a certain degree. But the hype will die down and it wont be seen as just "cool" and all the pretenders give up and go home. It will be as common place as boxing and be around for a long time.Right now every gym is catering to MMA and trying to make some money on its poularity. So in essence everyone and their Granma are trying to do it. The basic componants are simplified versions of the original disciplines. So its easier for the average kid to learn and be farily effective quickly. Plus its a viable option for kickboxers and wrestlers to pursue a pro career and be able to get paid. So Id say in about five years MMA will be a truly accepted everyday fighting style. My only real concern for the sport is that its headed down the road that boxing has went down. Multiple Champions and organizations. And the constant question of who is the best. And they cant fight due to the contracts signed. If this dosent get resolved. MMA could have a problem. Jeez look how long Liddell vs Silva took. And now its at the end of both of their careers. Not the ideal scenario. And there alway is the situation of Dana White resembling Don King. Just look t how he changed his tune regarding Kimbo Slice. Basically stated he would net let a glorified street fighter fight in the UFC. And right after he wins he cracked the door to the possibility. Seeing how much Hype and interest Kimbo created, White knew that he could make money on the guy. Mark my words, if Kimbo loses Dana will say I knew this guy wouldnt make it. And if he wins the three remaning fights on his EXC contract. White will pay big $ for him. Or get in a bidding war. And in a way it would be sad if a common thug was a UFC champion. Wouldnt happen in boxing. And to round out this longwinded rambling. Mr White can give a shot to whomever he sees fit. if he signs Kimbo he can give him an immedaite shot. Or set him up with a meatball and then a shot. His authority is unquestionable and makes it a bit scary.

You are a jerk samuel. So because women like UFC it is going to go down the tubes? Women can't be taken seriously as sports fans? I have been watching since the days there were no rules, and have taken kickboxing and watched my youngest brother wrestle all through school, and now my daughter is going into her third year of wrestling at 56 lbs and
has a 14-2 record all wins against boys thank you.

I like watching mma and I didn't think being a woman had anything to do with it.

So samuel did you e-mail all the women here, or was it just me? You are a sexist a$$ clown, my daughter is by no means butch, she's 9 and likes competitive sports. Plenty of women watch football, and basketball, I don't hear anyone saying its a fad.

And for whoever said women only watch it for the eye candy, that is like saying that men only watch UFC for the ring girls.

Grow up, and accept that women do watch and participate in sports, and stop feeling so threatened by women.

I am a 32 year old WOMAN and I have been watching MMA for some time now. I have to tell you that I like to watch because it is exciting to see who will win and how. I sit on the edge of my seat. AND for me it really isn't about eye candy.
I mean come on, let's see here Forrest Griffin is so hot? lol
and what about Wanderlei or Matt Serra or even Tim Sylvia?
Don't get me wrong there are some good looking guys like Roger Huerta and GSP, but those guys are few and far between.
But to answer your question....what difference does it make if the UFC is a fad or not? As long as there are fights to watch I will be watching them.

expensive cheap? that doesn't make sense. And the UFC has been around for so many years, its just growing more fans now a days. It started long ago, 80 yrs ago, with "Vale Tudo" anything goes fighting, and then UFC brought the MMA version to United States in '93 from Brazil and Japan. New owners took over in early 2001......and the rest is history.

I think the UFC has a real dilemma. They want MMA to be popular, but the more popular MMA becomes the more other promoters will try to take market share from UFC. Just look at how Fedor apparently can make better money fighting elsewhere.

I think that the ufc is a fad, and just filling their brackets with tomato cans so they can keep the ones that obey the all mighty White, can stay on top. I agree with the other posts that say I used to be more graphic and actuall Martial Arts, i never considered amature wrestling a martial art but what ever. I think it is a far cry from the hand to hand combat that I loved to watch. Bare knuckle kicks to the face while on the ground and no time limit, first one ko'd or taps looses, The ufc caters to wrestlers and grapplers plain and simple and like to keep amercian english speaking fighters on top, example Anderson Silva, compared to Franklin, who got more air time, more sponsorship and more publicity while they were champions.
Oh and american women watch mma the same way men watches womens volleyball tournaments, FOR THE EYE CANDY!!!! Except for my ex, she actually liked to see blood, odd!

NO WAY! I'm a woman, so I'm VERY picky with the sports I watch. I LOVE UFC. And, it's a really good business to get into right now.

I don't know if the fighters are getting too gentle or that I'm becoming de-sensitized to the violence. It used to seem a lot more graphic to me and now it just looks like wrestling.
