Im 165lbs, 6' tall. I've been training for underground boxing/kickboxing matches, mostly being influenced by Muay Thai. My opponent is roughly 150lbs about 5'8" - 5'9" and is a very agressive-styled boxer. I've watched a few of his fights, most of which he just goes at his opponent and then lowers his facing giving constant fast hooks. He's pretty expereinced in boxing, but didnt do any form of kick boxing / MMA yet. Rules are normal Muay Thai Kickboxing styled rules (Kicks, Knees, Elbows, and Punches,... no take downs, submissions, etc).

Can I have advice on what to do? Im extremely quick w/ very good footwork, but due to this being my first competition Im just out looking for advice. Im thinking about going for a flying knee, or when he comes at me and does his usual "lower the head and face and then constant fast hook" tactic, just start throwing knees or uppercuts... what are your thoughts?

You are taller than him and he has to swing and punch up while you have the advantage of reach and are punching down. I would jab, double jab and triple jab him to death and send power straight rights in behind it and he will never get close enough to do much with his hooks. If he does then you come back with the uppercuts once he is inside your reach. Along with that it is a kickboxing match so you should be kicking and get your kicks in and unless he can get inside of your distance he is going to be in for a long, rough night. If he is pretty experienced in boxing he can probably slip punches and use angles to land his hooks once he is inside but you should make him pay double every time he tries to close with you. That along with out kicking him should give you a better chance of winning the rounds, one at time, and the decision.

Hi,
Keep the distance, circle, low kicks.
Concentrate on your 3 best techniques and keep coming back to them.

Visualization
After you have reviewed what you can do to enhance your current focus using mind, body and spirit you will then need to mentally visualize what we call a "positive performance." This entails visualizing yourself performing the skills in class at the level you would like to achieve. When visualizing, be sure and see the images from your own eyes. That is to say, don't see yourself doing things as if you are watching, see yourself doing things as if it were actually happening. This type of training is part of our Creative Mental Training program, but works well in the beginning of class.

Have a look what the dutch fighters do with this storming bulls.

Boxing: it quite is speedy to earnings, and is amazingly effectual. you would be waiting to beat somebody who has been knowledgeable in different martial arts for the 1st few years of your profession. even nevertheless, after for extra or less 7 years, those with different martial arts adventure can defeat you genuinely. of direction, it is that if that individual is amazingly dedicated to struggling with and self-protection. you will possibly do only right with boxing. Taekwondo isn't precisely that effectual power clever, even nevertheless it has particularly some fancy kicks. once you're searching for some cool strikes and a few potential in struggling with taekwondo is a thank you to bypass. Kung Fu would not prepare defence, even nevertheless this is effectual. It takes a at the same time as to earnings. you will possibly sense such as you're dancing better than actualy training. in case you get stable at it, you will possibly be tremendously astounding nevertheless. Karate is what i'm taking, and that i like it. that is totally sluggish and boring to earnings, yet your physique turns into quite stealth, balanced, and quickly. There are actually not any fancy strikes; each and every thing is honestly straight forward. even nevertheless it takes consistently to get stable at. I spent 12 years with karate, and that i understand; i began getting stable after the 8th 3 hundred and sixty 5 days with any luck this can provide you some theory of the place you opt to be on your martial arts
