Materazzi will never tell the truth about what he said because he knows that will get him in a lot of trouble.

Put yourself in Zidane's shoes for a moment. From what I've read, this is a pretty fair account of what actually happened:

Let's say your mother recently fell ill and went to the hospital. Then, while you play a soccer game, someone grabs your shirt, and you joke about it, even though you're tired, injured, and stressed about just missing a huge goal.

But then that person tells you "calm down. everyone knows you're the son of a terrorist whore. I hope your family dies a terrible death. So **** off."

Given all that, how do you think YOU would react to this? And what do you think would be the "right" thing to do?

I believe coaches should be carded for unnecessary behavior on the sideline. They are setting a bad example for their team, and children around the world. Not to mention coaches of kid teams who see a proffesional coach yelling, so they should too. After all, coaches and staff are part of the team.

Being human, His reaction absolutely acceptable.

Maradona was redcarded after kicking Gentile, then he played in Italy and became an icon; Zidane played in Italy, then redcarded after headbutting Materazzi. Go figure! (pssst, no soccer star should mess about with Italian team during FIFA WC)

I mean come on their team has won 1 WC 40 years ago, that too in home..still in every WC the English team go in as favourites then crash out in Quarter finals, after playing some sleepy football & end up blaming the ref, eveyone else except them. I love their rock music & literature but football pleeaasee. You want to know about their sucess? Just 1 win in 1966 at home...after that just 1 semifinal in Italia 90. Hell even Sweden, USSR, Yogoslavia have reached the same number of semi finals !The record in EURO is worse 1 semifianl that too in their home in 1996 ! Consider the fact that in every EURO the hosts have reached the SF so thats not special.
Another disgusting thing is calling EPL best in the world...you want the facts ? Only 3 English clubs have reached the final of champions league in last 20 years ! Man Utd ( 99 ), Liverpool ( 05), Arsenal (06 ). How can they call their football best with such perennially mediocre performance...Comparing Rooney to Pele !Dont you hate it ??

Why do you think?
I did some reading and I figured it out. The Italians are good at football because they invented the game! Its a conspiracy!! No seriously, I believe in giving people props. Italians..thanks for contributing so much to the world...especially pasta!! (I just read that too.. The Etruscans made it!)

The http://soccernet.com site made its worst XI squad in the World. The team goes like this:
Barthez(France)
Zaccardo(Italy)
Boulharouz(Netherlands)
Gavrancic(Serbia & Montenegro)
Roberto Carlos(Brazil)
Mark Van Bommel(Netherlands)
Ronaldinho(Brazil)
Frank Lampard(England)
Michael Owen(England)
Ruud Van Nistelrooy(Netherlands)
Adriano(Brazil)

So, do you agree with those guys?
Personally, I would also include Zidane for what he has done!

Basically, Zidane said that:

1) His own reaction was not forgivable and should be punished. He is sorry it happened.
2) He started joking about the shirt grab before M's insults
3) He does not regret what he did because otherwise it would make it OK for Materazzi to say what he did.
4) He says there are 2 people involved: the instigator, and the reactor. Both should be punished. He says people focus too much on the reaction and not the provocation.
5) He won't repeat the exact words (put yourself in his place. I don't think I could ever repeat words that severely insult my sick mother)
6) He wants the children of the world to know that doing what he did should be avoided, but also to not let other people walk all over you.

Basically Zidane is a man who will instinctively defend his family no matter what.

2006-07-12 18:48:13 · 27 answers · asked by fromage_frais 2

Can you imagine if he were to play in another game ? EVERY opponent would talk about his mother, sister and grandmother. He basically said that he didn't regret it and that he would do it again, being a man (and I guess son and brother) first.
His mother's comments (who wants Mattarazzi's ball on a platter) didn't really help.

What do YOU think would happen if he were to play again ?

(Before I get all the Zizou fans upset, I think he ranks right up there with Pele, Beckenbauer, Garincha, Maradona - with Zidane being the GREATEST !)
