Basically, Zidane said that:
1) His own reaction was not forgivable and should be punished. He is sorry it happened.
2) He started joking about the shirt grab before M's insults
3) He does not regret what he did because otherwise it would make it OK for Materazzi to say what he did.
4) He says there are 2 people involved: the instigator, and the reactor. Both should be punished. He says people focus too much on the reaction and not the provocation.
5) He won't repeat the exact words (put yourself in his place. I don't think I could ever repeat words that severely insult my sick mother)
6) He wants the children of the world to know that doing what he did should be avoided, but also to not let other people walk all over you.
Basically Zidane is a man who will instinctively defend his family no matter what.

Materazzi should be punished. Words hurt harder than actions.
I would leave it to FIFA to decide on how.

Dont think so . He was taling trash just like Zidane was the whole game, just like we all do in the playground. But lets assume that Materazzi gets a 6 game suspension, then Zidane should be stripped of his award of the golden ball, should be made to give a public apology that does not have the word :BUT: in it, a true one, and should not be allowed to watch any international football events for at least e year (cbecause apparently he will not be playing anymore,. but that should not allow him to escape punishment for his stupid and vicious act.

i support Zidane all the way. Materazzi and the Italian team should be punish, strip their WC title, they didn't deserve it. Come to think about it, they didn't. Italy just has to get Zidane out of the field so they can win PKs...what a bunch of soring losers.

Taunts & verbal abuses are a part of every game ...in cricket it is called sledging....remember that Australia vs West Indies cricket match where McGrath & Sarwan almost resorted to fighting as the later said something about McGrath's wife. John McEnroe verbally abused the umpires !!
Well im sorry to dissapoint you but in football only verbally abusing a ref is a crime..not verbally abusing players. It's a part of the game. On the other hand physical abuse what Zidane did is a crime....worst as he retaliated. Of course he should defend his family..but not during the game..

Zidane headbutted Materazzi, because Materazzi said something about his mom... right?
No need to punish him... taunts, name calling... it's all part of the game, get in your adversary's head and break him down.

I don`t care anymore! All these talks of million-dollar paid football players makes me sick already. It is all about the money anyways! Let`s leave it to FIFA to decide. We have more things to worry about.
