This is just my opinion of course, but firstly Matterazzi said he said nothing, now he said he did insult Zidane but won't exactly say what. He also claimed not to know what a terrorist was but later said the only terrorist he new was his daughter(in jest of course). He is not a child but a well seasoned and well travelled International soccer player. I find it hard to accept that a grown adult today does not know what a terrorist is. Zidane has stood by the same story throughout and faced the world. Neither of them are angels, they both have unsavoury things in their playing history. Zidane could have lied and said Materazzi called him a terrorist, but did not. He has stated in fact that was not what it was about. Even though the headbutt was regrettable, so were the insults that started the whole incident in the first place. Both need to bare the responsibility. People say Zidane should not have reacted to words but then why is it OK for Materazzi to react to what he said was a look from Zidane. But to me, when it comes to explanations, I feel Zidane is more credible. I believe him. I am not French either so it has nothing to do with my heritage.

If what Zidane said are all lies? Then why Materazzi never stand up for himself and call Zidane a Liar? He himself has said that he insulted Zidane. So everybody should know now that ZZ is the victim and not Materazzi. Yes i agree that in a football match, insults are common but some insultsmay just have gone too far and in this case probably Materazzi went too far! Why ZZ kept quiet for a few days, he knows that he is breaking a code of professional footballers and that is to keep whats in the playing field in the playing field . But in this case its the world cup final and he had to speak up because it was his last match as a fotoballer anyway.

What if he is telling the truth. The onl;y discrepency is whether his mom was used in the context or not. Materazzi already said he cursed his sister out. So what!!! Similar phrases are always used in the playground. Materazzi is a dirty player but so is Zidane. Dont let him fool you. He has been famous throughout his career for such vicious acts.
Besides, he supposedly apologized today. An apology can not have a but in it. He said:
I apologize to the kids, BUT I do not regret what I did, I should have punched him in the face. REALLY?
Basicall he said:
Hey kids, if someone talks to trash to you, go and hit him
What a loser. He was a great footballer, but unfortunately I will remember him for this now. He didnt even show enough class to show up for the ceremony or to receive his golden ball award that Buffon desewrved by playing amazing the whole tournamenet not just the second round games like Zidane. FIFA strip him of this honor, if you want to close the chapter in this world cup with any dignity.

Are you all so Ignorant. EVERY player insults and comments to other players on the field. Materazzi and Zidane just got Caught.
Neither are telling the entire truth because it takes 2 to tango. Just that words are not punishable. Thanks goodness or there would be no players on the field. and what if fans could not insult etc. there would be no fans.
Grow Up. Materazzi does what all other players do. Zidane reacted when most other don't.
Deserved the RED and shame that goes with it. (he has punched, kicked and butted other players in the past look it up - 14 Red cards)
Simple as that. ZZ got a Red Card - Game Over.

I believe Zidane. No one would like to throw his career and reputation down the drain just because he feels like it. On top of that, if read the Mattarazzi interview, he admits that he said something to Zidane. To him it was normal to insult others, which makes me wonder is it OK to insult people in Italy, they take it easy and don't react? I do not think so.

Zidane's account is in line with that of most lip-readers who tried to make out what materazzi said. I believe him. Hate him all you want, but Zidane remains one of the greatest footballers ever!
