I mean come on their team has won 1 WC 40 years ago, that too in home..still in every WC the English team go in as favourites then crash out in Quarter finals, after playing some sleepy football & end up blaming the ref, eveyone else except them. I love their rock music & literature but football pleeaasee. You want to know about their sucess? Just 1 win in 1966 at home...after that just 1 semifinal in Italia 90. Hell even Sweden, USSR, Yogoslavia have reached the same number of semi finals !The record in EURO is worse 1 semifianl that too in their home in 1996 ! Consider the fact that in every EURO the hosts have reached the SF so thats not special.
Another disgusting thing is calling EPL best in the world...you want the facts ? Only 3 English clubs have reached the final of champions league in last 20 years ! Man Utd ( 99 ), Liverpool ( 05), Arsenal (06 ). How can they call their football best with such perennially mediocre performance...Comparing Rooney to Pele !Dont you hate it ??

YES they are optimistic... and so are we in S E Asia.

We have grown up with the English brand of football - followed it religiously through weekly live coverages from the days of Div.1 to the current Barclays EPL; read all about it daily in local newspapers - English players are household names in Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore and quite a number of them and EPL top teams have played friendlies here in steamy tropical conditions. Naturally when ENGLAND competes internationally we want them to win - this inexplicable wish in us all is there in our collective hearts & minds however silly we are - we're asians with zero connection to England.

Barclays EPL - not Serie A, nor Primera Liga or other leagues - enthralls, entertains, excites us all that no other football leagues in the world can. (We've have tried watching other leagues - very low ratings TV stations dropped them). It may not be the 'best' league in the world but you can't say it's not the toughest because of its demands - ask Wenger or Sir Alex.

Even though ENGLAND failed in Germany, I for one (and many over here i'm sure) will only want ENGLAND to win, to redeem theselves in EURO2008 Switzerland-Austria.

Football means little to us without ENGLAND and the EPL - that's how much we love English football.

Don't you think it's better to be optimistic rather than pesimistic? Why say "oh my team is never going to make it. let's go home and bake cakes!!!"? I prefer thinking that my team is going to win and if they don't at least I had a good time watching them play.
