Why do you think?
I did some reading and I figured it out. The Italians are good at football because they invented the game! Its a conspiracy!! No seriously, I believe in giving people props. Italians..thanks for contributing so much to the world...especially pasta!! (I just read that too.. The Etruscans made it!)

Their goalkeeper Buffon and knowing how to play a series of games not a one off.

They did not dive the best, they did not cheat the best, they were not the luckiest but they did get through undefeated.They conceded 1 real goal (the other was an own goal) before the final and one Buffon saved penalty kicks.


They won because they were the best team overall. They peaked towards the end of the cup rather than the group stages.

I think you mean Calcio which is still played in Florence. Actually such accounts can be found in Chinese history too...but the English invented modern football.

The Italians won because:
1- They were a better tactical team
2- They were a better TEAM overall. instead of counting on one VILLAIn general.
3- Despite an undeserved PK agains them they did not lose their cool.
4- Despite the cross bar helping out the Frenchies they kept their cool.
5- They were not idiots like Zidane acting like little kids. losing their cool because of trash talking.
PS - The Italians did not invvent the game. the Brits did.

1. In Italy we all know football is coming from England. I really can't figure it out how an Italian could told we invented football. In Italy football is called 'kick'. Federazione Italiana Gioco Calcio = 'Italian Federation Kick Game'. But all of us know it's world known as football. English term. It could only be a joke.
2. Italy win by
i) great goalkeeper and defenders. The team fails the match against USA and Australia, but goalie and defenders always were at their top performance.
ii) great coach. A Federal (National) team can't have the same efficiency of a club team. Club players stays together 250 days out a year, playing, training, living in the same city, sharing hobbies as disco or golf, having holidays... In a fed team the days could be 30-40 or 70-90 if a great tournament as a WC happens. In a fed team a coach hasn't enough time to try tactics, movement, schemes. Having a key role player injured is a trouble in a club, a catastrophe in a fed team.
Coach Lippi played preliminaries with his favorite 4-3-1-2. When Totti was injured by a broken leg on February, he was replaced by Del Piero. Italy won great friendly match (3-1 Holland, 4-1 Germany) showing an unusual attacking attitude according to Lippi's game behavior. In WC, Totti wasn't fully recovered and Del Piero was in lack of fitness. After Ghana and USA match, Lippi had to switch to a more defensive 4-4-1-1, better covering Totti slow movements. As result, Italy had 21 players out of 23 sent in the field, 10 players who scored a goal, 5 of them after replacements, the better defense, and won the cup. Without playing their usual tactic....
iii) great team spirit and willingness. With the football scandal going on, Beckenbauer said "Italy will fully pay its scandal at WC". Crowd and press had great pressure. Players reacted focusing on their training session and Lippi's teachings. In the field, team spirit and willingness help them to reach their goal. An unknow (and disliked by some columnist) defender as Grosso had a great goal in extra-time against Germany. This is the Italian WC 2006 photo I more like.

that is right they have a very good defense and they play classic but why Germany didn't bit them.German goalie Leman is the best and they had a very good Chance on Penalty so they played slow and they just wanted penalty because they could bit Italy.Italy used this and played hard when German played slow.(I think German realy could win)
