kickboxers , muay thai fighters and cagefighters are at greater risk of a punch or knee or kick in the groin but wear small guards that can hardly be noticed. boxers wear enormous leather wrap wound guards that make them look michelin men below the waist. why?

I just joined a fitness club that has boxing classes. I do want to join but I need my own boxing gloves. I found some that I want to buy just that they come in 3 different sizes 12oz, 14oz and 16oz. How do I choose? I am 5'7 @155lbs if that helps. Im oviously a bigginer but I do want to work my self up to sparing with other boxers. Im just too much of a rookie to go up to the pros and ask.

I'm a woman and I dont want to get all crazy muscley... but would this be a good workout for my arms and my legs? Plus I'm always wanting to punch people anyway so maybe this would just be a good stress reducer... what do you think?

Mike Tyson vs. James "Buster" Douglas. How do you feel Tysons career and perhaps the whole 90's heavyweight division would've changed if when Buster was floored in the 8th, if he stayed on the mat for one more second and Tyson won?

I just watched the Tyson-Douglas match and Tyson was completely dominated, even though he was 6 yrs younger than Douglas.

I can buy the argument that Tyson was prevented from having longevity because as aged he lost his speed, evasiveness, and became an easy target. But that wouldn't have been an issue at 23.

Is it possible that he just fought poor competition and never would have done anything were he in another era>

The Crane vs the Eye of the Tiger baby!!! Wouldn't the sound track be cool too? Why would they get into it (the fight)? There is always a "good guy" and "bad guy". Which of the two would be bad? It is just on my mind because The Karate Kid 2 was on TV, I found it to be every bit as silly as Rocky 3/4/5 were. Just have fun with the question and feel free to go crazy. I'll give the points to the most creative story.

Say a prayer for that young man Burgos. Another example of why boxing gets a bad wrap. Referee John Schorle handled the situation badly. Asking the corner/Burgos at the end of tenth if he wanted to continue when Burgos was taking a battering and had no shot to win the fight except by a stroke of luck. You don't ask the corner or especially a fighter if he wants to continue. You think the fighter is going to say "no I've had enough". Any one who's gotten in their and mixed it up before knows any fighter who's worth his salt whether hurt or not is going to say "hell yes I can go" . Schorle was in charge and he calls the shots in there. Any ref who doesn't think his ultimate responsibility is the SAFETY of the fighter should not be allowed to referee again. Agree or disagree? Another black eye for the great sport of boxing.

I've read where he is planning to move up to the lightweight division. In your opinion is it a matter of "tell me it aint so" or can he campaign in that division and add more titles to his already impressive hall of fame resume?
There are some tough cookies in the lightweight division. Is Erik's tank running dry or can he muster a run at the lightweight championship?

Explain what was going on in your head when you realized you were gonna get the sh*t beat outa you. If you have never lost a fight, could you explain what is going through your head as you inflict pain upon another person and how you feel after seeing what you have done to the person you beat up?
