OK, but win lose or draw against Louis. What would have happened after with other contenders, and the war and such?

Kevinm has the best answer so far. I never even thought of that.

Tyson would have never been given a title shot. Remember, Joe Louis was the 2nd African American heavyweight champion, and his managers were very careful not to make him look anything like the first, Jack Johnson, for fear that he wouldnt be given a title shot. And, at the time, other good African American heavyweights werent given title shots (think Harry Wills http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=017615 during Dempsey's time, and others...Langford, ). If Tyson existed back then, he would have never gotten a title shot.

If Tyson fought and beat Joe Louis before Louis became champ, neither man would have ever been champion. The only way would have been if (big if) Tyson beat Louis while Louis was champ.

Tyson would've cleaned up the heavyweight division. Remember that during his prime Louis had no decent competition except for Billy Conn and he fought so called bums of the month during his 11-year reign. For Tyson, he has only Joe Louis to contend with and he would surely beat Louis. Both fighters were fundamentally sound. They threw their punches correctly and in fast and sustained combinations. However, the peak Tyson (of the late 80's) was bigger, stronger and faster than the Brown Bomber. If Tyson had Kevin Rooney and the rest of Cus D'Amato's trainers by his side, he'll surely beat Louis. On the other hand, I don't see Tyson having a long title reign like Louis. He would not have reigned as champion even for five years. Like what we saw with Iron Mike, he'd self-destruct after a few defenses. Once he makes money, he'd lose his concentration and appetite for boxing and turn his sights on women and alcohol. He'd be a menace just the same.

Mike Tyson would have been placed in an insane asylum and heavily sedated until he either died there or released in the late 1960's, early 1970's. Muhammad Ali would have had him for breakfast if Tyson was stable enough to fight anyone (assuming he wasn't over the hill after his 2 decades in an insane asylum).

While committed to an insane asylum, Mike Tyson would never have fought Joe Louis and no comparison could then be made between the two boxers.

Only Cus D'Amato could redirect Tyson's aggressive psychosis into an effective boxing champion. Once D'Amato died, Tyson wound up in the 20 year slump with the women, boozing, drugs, criminal convictions, beating people in the middle of the road, et al.

having seen Joe Louis fight he would have knocked him out cold. Joe was quick with power in his fists and was also a good boxer with a great jab. On the other hand rocky Marciano was the hardest puncher and have eye of the tiger! he refused to lose and was the best fighter in the world!

Alright until he ran into the great Brown Bomber who would have knocked him completely out in my opinion. Joe had dynamite in his fists and was also a good boxer with a great jab.
