Say a prayer for that young man Burgos. Another example of why boxing gets a bad wrap. Referee John Schorle handled the situation badly. Asking the corner/Burgos at the end of tenth if he wanted to continue when Burgos was taking a battering and had no shot to win the fight except by a stroke of luck. You don't ask the corner or especially a fighter if he wants to continue. You think the fighter is going to say "no I've had enough". Any one who's gotten in their and mixed it up before knows any fighter who's worth his salt whether hurt or not is going to say "hell yes I can go" . Schorle was in charge and he calls the shots in there. Any ref who doesn't think his ultimate responsibility is the SAFETY of the fighter should not be allowed to referee again. Agree or disagree? Another black eye for the great sport of boxing.

full-contact80 - I hear ya. But the big difference between this fight and Castillo/Corrales I is that Diego and Jose Luis fought a spirited and extremely competitive fight. This one lacked both of those ingredients.

Brent ~
Last question I'm answering tonight. The referee did not do his job and should be held accountable and Burgos family should be allowed to file a lawsuit against the California Athletic Commission for licensing such an idiot and the referee. Even the announcers knew that Burgos was outmatched and taking serious damage. This is why our sport is going down the tubes, rotten referees, bad judges and horrible/greedy promoters.

Thanks for the absolute sickening question Brent. Peace my Brother.

Indeed refs is the ultimate decision maker when it comes to when to stop a fight. Clearly Burgos was not in the fight. Refs should know better if the boxer had taken so much. Its his judgement call. But the corner should know best and has the power to stop his boxer, he can check Burgos of any indications and can call the doctor to monitor. Remember that Burgos passed all medical checks less than a week before and immediately before the fight. Its the trainers' fault for not preparing Burgos for that fight. He was ill prepared. Darchiyan is a monster. as of now, Burgos has recovered from brain surgery and is still in induced coma. He will recover but will not fight again.

Brent, how many times have we seen referees allow fights to continue when they should clearly stop it and especially when the fighter has no chance. Of course the fighter is always going to say he's ok but the referee has to take action and responsibility and stop the fight particularly if a fighter's well being is in danger as is the case with this fight. I will definetly say a prayer for Burgos. Thanks Brent!

I agree, I haven't seen this fight yet but from what I've read he was never in the fight. The same thing happened on Friday Night Fights. A fighter took unneccessary punishment to the point that Teddy Atlas was standing up yelling at the ref to stop the fight. They atleast need to be put under review and pay a heavy penalty.

My only concern would be that ref's would begin to jump the gun for fear of losing their license. I hate seeing a fighter get hurt but if they start jumping in too early that will cause fights like Corrales vs Castillo I to never happen.

I have to agree, I don't want to see another Levander Johnson incedent happen, where the referee allowed Levander to continue eventhough he was injured badly. That is why I was shocked when in the Berto-Figuerroa fight where Andre Berto was blowing Figuerroa out that the Corner and the Ref allowed the fight continue into the 7th round I believe. On a side note when will Arce vs Darcyinain happen

You're right. This Darchinyan is a monster. The other kid was never in the fight.
This is reminiscent of the McClellan/Benn fight, when it was obvious from the 4th round onwards that McClellan was in serious trouble.

This is the tragic side of the sport. Prayer said.
