Brent ~
It's not a secret of why Eric is moving up, he has abused his body way too long, draining it completely to make weight then eating and drinking everything in sight, sometimes gaining 15 pounds after weigh in ala Roberto Duran. The sad thing about this is, his body has turned on him his past few fights and it is indeed time for Eric to retire. One can only abuse their body so long before the body turns to make a statement of it's own.
Eric has been in way too many wars from Pacman to Barrera and everyone else in between he's always been in a war. He might win one more Championship, but at what expense? Is it worth not so far the future to sit down and not understand a word Eric is saying because of slurred speech caused by Pugilistic Dementia. The same fans that cheer when he knocks someone out and gives them the war they are so desperately craving should be the same fans screaming for him to retire. Holyfield, Byrd, and Gatti's fans should be screaming the exact same thing, RETIRE!
Thanks for the question Brent.

Erik is moving up because it is to hard for him to make weight. Because he trys so hard to make weight his body is usually to drained and weak to fight. Do I think he will win tittles at lightweight division, well it depends on who he fights. Yes he has lost a step, but styles make fights and he is a crafty vet with a good chin. So I think he may have a few fights left in him. But only time will tell.

As much as I respect and think Morales is one of the greatest boxers of all time, I cant help but think he should throw in the towel. The man has been fighting since 1993. 14 yrs of boxing!! He has well proven himself and has given us fans some great matches and wins. If he keeps fighting he will definately hurt himself, maybe even brain damage. I really dont want to see him turn out like Old Chavez did at the end of his career.

Eric still has it...if not for scrambling to lose weight during the Pacman fights, he will still be good for the lightweight class...he still can fight at top level. he just came across a much very good fighter in Pacquiao who is very comfortable fighting at 130. i think, lightweights now are not in Morales' caliber..he can still dominate the likes of the Diazes, Casamayor, Freitas..

Erik is indeed having trouble making weight, his frame is built for the step up.... believe he can compete if he stays at his natural body weight.

its over for morales. whats ad about his ending career is that he goes out as a very poor looser. he acknowledged pacman when he lost and that is good sportmanship. owever, it was too little too late. morales failed to shake hand with barrera twice after barrera beat him. its sad that a fighters career end with a bad note.
