kickboxers , muay thai fighters and cagefighters are at greater risk of a punch or knee or kick in the groin but wear small guards that can hardly be noticed. boxers wear enormous leather wrap wound guards that make them look michelin men below the waist. why?

In boxing there's more of a continuous body attack than in MMA. Trust me, the extra padding is needed and helps.

Boxers don't need to kick, so they can sacrifice flexibility for safety. MMA-type fighters need the range of motion, so they sacrifice a bit of protection..
