Did the Yankees really piss off the Twins when they set the deadline to except the Santana b Monday? I hope not.

The Yankees and the Boston Red Sox have been competing on and off the field for more than a century. So it is not surprising that the teams are now feverishly competing to acquire Johan Santana, the elite left-handed pitcher from the Minnesota Twins.

Yankees are throwing in Phil Hughes in the deal. After all has been said by the Yankees that Hughes was off-limits, it seems that Yankees had a change of heart and are now in a good position to aquire Johan Santana from the Twins. The Yankees could close this deal by next week acording to some resources.

You think the Yanks will get him?

Santana deal may not happen, and frankly, I d rather go for Haren or Bedard, who may not be as good as Santana, but they are fine pitchers, and wont cost us as much as Santana in terms of players and dollars. What do you think?

Excuse me for looking at the reality of this -- but the guy wasn't spectacular in his WALK YEAR.. (for all intents & purposes, as we all know).. so, what makes anyone think he'll be a 20-game winner year after year? And is he REALLY worth more than any other ML starting pitcher in baseball history?

Please give me reasons why they will or won't be able to compete.

This guy moved the Dodgers out of Brooklyn... and baseball has been on the West Coast for 50 years.. and NOW they vote him in? an owner that's called a 'visionary' of course, by the LA Dodgers' shill Tommy LaSorda. How about that this owner crippled baseball in New York City -- when it was the center of the baseball universe, and led to the RESIGNATION of Jackie Robinson who would NOT go to the NY Giants (by trade) nor to the west coast, where he even STARRED for UCLA, as a college-educated man in the 1940s. He's still called Walter F*cking O'Malley in Brooklyn -- and always will be. He should NOT be a Hall of Famer, because there's NO greatness in this -- MLB should have started a franchise out west... and not allowed the Brooklyn Dodgers to become something less, than what they were... and abandon the best fans EVER in MLB history, like that.

Has anyone heard who they would have to give up? I'm guessing it would include Adam Jones and/or Jeff Clement plus more...

I heard this on ESPN from Steve Phillips.

I strongly believe the NY Yankees would have won another 2-3 World Series.. if not for Joe Torre... who is the most overrated manager in baseball history.

goat-tees, etc, and if they want their players to feel a bit more relaxed, instead of like an uptight Wall St. banker, why not do away with this stupid rule? Obviously, it isn't working anymore for them. They haven't won a WS in 7 years. The Red Sox, who allow facial hair, have won 2 in the past 4 seasons. In order to compete with their arch-rival, maybe they should 86 this stupid rule, you agree?

The guy was a total idiot to had fought free agency when he was commissioner. A man of truly limited vision and a stooge for old baseball club owners who vindictively punished Charlie Finley.

On the other hand Marvin Miller made baseball interesting in the off season and promoted the welfare of the players, hes left out. Thats truly weird.

Ok, I just got a slightly dumber after hearing that Johan Santana won't approve a trade to the Yanks because he'll have to shave his goatee....Will Sox fans pleeze wake the hell up?

The Yanks are desperate for pitching and I think they'll do anything to get Santana, they kno if they let Boston swoop in, it could be out demise. Also, why are people acting like Fenway is such a great place to pitch? They have the green monster which gives up so many doubles, that quirky outfield and the pesky pole? I think Santana will land with NY.

Personally, I hate the DH rule . . . but here's your chance to make your best arguement - pro or con and why? Good answers all get a thumbs up - best argument for either side gets the points.

As an avid Red Sox fan, I'm anxious awaiting to know if Ellsbury will be included in this trade. I was reallly getting used to watching the Soxs play and WIN. But feel that IF, Theo and his dollars, somehow make this trade that another curse will fall over Fenway! Remember Babe Ruth?
