This is awesome. Andy Pettite is a gamer. He was the go-to guy and stopper this year during all the trials and tribulations. This 'retirement' thing was a ploy to get the most possible out of another year. He was pulling a 'Clemens' his good buddy probably advised Andy to do it. Nice strategy to test out how bad the Yankees wanted him to come back. Now if he has a decent year, wait and see if he does it again!!

Too undesirable the Indians didnt nonetheless have Borowski for the Yankees to get. Chaos, you forgot Damaso Marte. besides the reality that he has had a stable 3 hundred and sixty 5 days to date, he's a ticking time-bomb. the only blessing for the Yanks is the Rays nonetheless have Choate and Benoit and seem to nonetheless think of they could make considerable League setup met out of them.despite handed off to Howell and Wheeler? No contender interior the AL, has an entire Pen, with the exception maybe of Texas. Tampa and the Yanks have the closer, with suspect set-up. The White Sox and Twins are the different (although Capps). The Angels and Tigers do no longer probable have the two. Texas would have the suitable Pen, wood would have been a stable in good shape there as he's a Texas guy , yet probable expenses too lots. (notice I leave out Boston as a contendor?)

Before the start of this season, I wasn't sure what Andy had left, but after the first couple of games he pitched in, he looked like he used to when he was in New York the first time. I still question the Steinbreiners for wanting to pay him 16 million, but to get him that's how it had to be. All I can say is that Andy will have to be a major key to the puzzle if New York wants to win the World Series in 2008.

I thought he was pretty much done before the 2007 season, but he went out and pitched pretty well. He's not going to be the rotation's ace, but he's still a decent second or third starter and a steadying presence on the team.
The $16m sounds a little excessive considering his performance these past two seasons, but it's not like it's going to break the bank for the Yankees. I think it's a positive for them, and he'll help the team in 2008.

good to hear andy is coming back, and while Ryan P said he was a new yorker, andy is from texas....so the angels look improved, boston is the defending champ and the yankees are looking better every day--santana could very well be the scale tipper in determining who goes to the world series...its been the best off season (for excitment and speculation) in years.....but (dang!!) there are still more than two months before pitchers and catchers report, i'm not sure i can wait that long.

As a Red Sox fan, I think it's awesome. The Yankees are overpaying all their players from last season that got them to an early playoff exit. All they need to do now is to re-sign Clemens to a prorated $35 million contract and they'll have locked up a third place finish in the division.

Good move, it appears Pettitte still has something left in the tank and he should be able to help the Yankees in 2008.

Best news of the offseason so far (including re-signing you know who)
Now if they can still get Santana, all of a sudden that rotation looks pretty damn good with two dominant lefties.

Yes its great to have Pettite back even if its just for one more year. Who knows, maybe he'll want to play for a couple more years before calling quits.
