I strongly believe the NY Yankees would have won another 2-3 World Series.. if not for Joe Torre... who is the most overrated manager in baseball history.

To answer those that believe this might be the case -- because the Dodgers haven't made ANY moves of yet.. that says that he's NOT ANY BETTER than Grady Little, now doesn't it?

Grady Little got this team to the playoffs the season before last... (they lost to Los Mets)... he did it with "less talent" than Joe Torre will have next season, right? (especially if Miguel Cabrera plays 3rd base for them)... and I think Little was a better Manager than Torre.
PS - Torre took Yanks' ace in Wang out of Game 1.. for SCOTT OLENDORFF.. and why wasn't Pettitte starting Game 1 anyhow? over Wang? vs. the Indians Big 3 LHB's?

They will have the same success as Torre's teams did when he managed in the N.L. before.
Zero.
He's a clubhouse guy, not a very good in-game manager. You can't sleep your way through the 6th, 7th and 8th and bring in Mariano for the 9th in the N.L. You actually have to MANAGE the game.
EDIT: Go Blue - you think the Dodgers are going 105-57 in 2008? That's crazy.

They have to sign some players first. If they can land Miguel Cabrera who knows.
If you are saying that you have to have players to win as a mananger then I agree.
What Torre does is bring excitement to a team as players will want to go there. Grady Little not a clubhouse guy or a good in game manager. He is just terrible, so Torre is certainly an upgrade there.
Also, to say that Torre was the reason that they did not win is ludicrous. He did not choke in the playoffs like Wang and A-rod this year. He can't play for them.

What players have the Dodgers brought in so far for 2008? Any big names? No. Joe Torre is an old man, 67. He isn't going to go out there and hit home runs. They need to get a big name pitcher and a couple big bats, then you can start talking about playoffs. However, judging from the fact how weak the NL West is, the Dodgers could theoretically make the playoffs and be just a few games above .500, at 82-80, kinda like how the Padres made the playoffs a few years ago with a really pitiful record.

Biff Jr:
You obviously know nothing about baseball. The NL West is the MOST COMPETITIVE DIVISION IN BASEBALL. Crawl out from under the AL rock you were hiding under.
4 teams over .500 and 3 of them were contending to the end. Also, the NLCS was played between two teams from the NL West. The NL West took the NL wildcard. Ignorant people like you drive me crazy.
Not to mention that an NL West pitcher has taken the Cy Young these past two years. (Webb in 06 and Peavy in 07)

There are way too many factors that are unknown in the NL west to give a good answer to this. Every team in the West was pretty strong last year (except the Giants). San Diego, Colorado , and Arizona look to continue what they did last year. SF and LA probably have a couple of big things that they are going to reveal soon. I think that the West is going to be very competitive and you'll see all of the teams there in the hunt unless there are some big injuries.
But as I said there are a lot of unknowns right at the moment.

WOW!!! That is amazing, he is a good manager and better than Grady...the big difference will be that Joe will keep the clubhouse strife from making it to the field. He is a solid manager that has learned a lot since his last stint in the NL. I would be willing to say that they will win 90 games next year and battle for their division with the Padres.

91 wins, the Dodgers may not make a lot of moves into free agency, maybe just a center fielder(Andruw Jones, not Aaron Rowand; returning to Phillies), and i think Cabrera is going to the Angels, but through trades i could see them picking up one starter to help out a decent rotation. I can really see them with a good mix of veteran players and the young talent winning the division.

It all depends on who they can pick up this offseason. If Torre has nothing else, he has another team that is willing to spend and a teamthat stars will want to come to. He has gone from the biggest TV market on earth to the second biggest, so he will have the talent to win and he has the respect of a lot of potential free agents. He is the Phil Jackson of MLB, he wins with a combination of talent AND big market= a lot of stars.

The Dodgers will win more games than you think. Joe isn't the most over-rated manager in baseball either.

You must be a Orioles or Royals fan since you know nothing about great teams. Sure we got a dumb GM and Colletti, but doesnt mean we were that way forever we have won 5 World Series as to what your favorite team might be
