He'll have MILLIONS of reasons to shave it and would be dumb to refuse. On the other hand, if it meant losing out on him, I think the Yanks would cave on that prehistoric rule very quickly. If I was a Steinbrenner and had a shot at him, he could wear a friggin dress and have dreadlocks hanging from his chin for all I care!

I just posted a question regarding this. This is the stupidest rule that any organization could have. A NO FACIAL HAIR policy. If this is the deal breaker, and if the Red Sox will pay him the same as what the Yankees will, then why would he want to go to the Yankees and have to shave it off? It is who he is. He obviously likes it, and he's a grown man. The Yankees need to do away with this, "we're a bunch of corporate suits/wall st. bankers organization, and clean cut choir boy" rules, so they can compete with organizations who don't have these petty rules. If this winds up being the deal-breaker, then I really think that the Steinbrenner's have to look really hard at this stupid no facial hair/long hair rule, and do away with it. This isn't the 1950's Leave it to Beaver days, when everyone wore a crew cut. It's 2007, almost 2008, it's time to evolve.

Oh Yea --- this is what I posted to that idiot's question about the goatee thing.
You had to open that can didn't you Hockey Guy. Let me guess your a Saux fan aren't you or just a Yankee hater. First of all, please do not seek the company of intelligent people when you have no clue what you are talking about. Again, I refuse to engage myself in a battle of wits with a seriously unarmed person.
As far as the question about the goatee being the deal breaker, let's look at the logic on this. Okay you're Santana and you have a goatee. There's this team with 26 world championships offering you millions, the key to the city, and a shot at a WS ring, which by the way, when you look in your jewelry box you have several seasons of 1 and done jewelry and that's all you have to show for the talent you have expended. (Theme from Jeopardy starts playing) you're thinking let's see big contract or goatee, big contract or goatee, gee I better take some Exlax so I can think better.

If he wants to keep his goatee and the yankee's policy is no, then if it happens, one has to give.
Johan will get a lot of money regardless, Boston won't give him any less, so if he likes the goatee, he will go to Boston.
Edit to No1NYYankee, I don't think the chances of Santana winning a ring is any less likely with Boston.

I think what most people don't realize is the superstition factor,i play sports ,sports guys are superstitious, for the most part, while it may only be hair to some to others it's part of their success, johnny damon flourished in Boston because the let him be himself, free to do as he pleased, this is appealing and help full to some others need discipline and to be told how to live(see military)this works for some and not for others.

The yankees do not have a no facial hair policy. You can have facial hair, it just needs to be neatly trimmed. Many of the players choose to shave completely just to fit in with the clean cut image of the team. Don Mattingly had a mustache during his playing days and so did Ron Guidry. Guidry even had one as pitching coach last season.

I hope he stays in Minnesota. I dont want the Yankees getting him because I hate the Yankees. I dont want the Red Sox getting him either because they're already the best team in baseball and getting him is going to make them damn near unbeatable.

Many people have come in over the past few years and shaved off and cut hair for the right to play for the Yankees, when Johan sees the contract he will sign it and shave it quickly.

I guarantee that this will not be an issue if Santana comes to the Yankees.
