Well the Twins are manuevering the Yankees and Red Sox against each other. The BoSox don't need another ace whereas the Yankees need one. Wang may have won 19 games these past two seasons, but he's more of a numbe two guy. Johan is that beast at the front that strikes everybody out.

I think the Twins don't really care what the Yankees say. The offers have not been good enough and the Yankees trying to strong arm the Twins into a bad deal won't happen. I hope (if he is dealt) that Johan goes to the Sox and kills the Yanks head to head. HOLD OUT Twins! You deserve at LEAST 3-4 good prospects for a pitcher of Johan's talent!

While baseball fans can find it very hard to interpret baseball negotiations without emotions... whether the Twins are ticked off with a negotiation tactic is not going to play any significant role in whether this trade will actually happen. The only way this timeline stance will shoot the Yankees in the foot, is if the Twins are not happy with whatever deal is on the table at the end of that timeframe. If its not "marketable" the deal will not happen. I'm a Sox fan, but kudos to the Yankees for attempting to stifle any over-inflation.

Two things to remember: One, no one is going to out bid the Yankees and Santana knows it. Two, the Steinbrenners just want to get this BS over with so that they can get the team ready for Spring training. The sooner all the pieces are in place the sooner they can start developing as a unit.
I don't think the Steinbrenners care one bit whether they piss anyone off or not. I guess you get that way when you're worth about a bazillion dollars!

It's been reported by a few sports sites that the TWINS are super pissed Steinbrenner went to the media with his deadline and are considering filing tampering charges against him & the Yankees. If that doesn't sugest that the Yankees are in bad shape in the Santana talk I don't know what would. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a saving face tactic since the Yankees offer was the weaker of the two team's offers.

I feel like this off season the Steinbrenners are trying to "prove" that they are going to be just as hard as George used to be. The deadline is dumb. If I were a team possibly giving up my best pitcher, I would definitely want to make sure I got the best deal for him. I hope the Steinbrenners would do the same.
So NY may have shot themselves in the foot. Or else they will rescind their deadline. Like they did with A-Rod.

It's all part of the negotiating game to get the upper hand. I don't believe the Yankees are any better or worse off because of the statements.

I am sure it did.
But if their dealings with Arod are any indication, they will somehow suggest that the twins wanted to show goodwill.
