Excuse me for looking at the reality of this -- but the guy wasn't spectacular in his WALK YEAR.. (for all intents & purposes, as we all know).. so, what makes anyone think he'll be a 20-game winner year after year? And is he REALLY worth more than any other ML starting pitcher in baseball history?

I know one thing is for sure hes worth more than Barry Zito. This guy has had the best numbers for the last 3-4 years conbined even though he struggled last yr. I would take my chances on this one.

I believe last year was the best season of Arods career, raising a career high in RBIs by 12, however, no one uses that excuse.

This wasn't a walk year for Santana, next year would be, except that he would have to be signed to a long term contract for that to happen.

Yes, he is worth more than any other starting pitcher. Bringing up the 'in history' part is moot because as time goes on, salaries go up.

If Zito is worth $18 mil, then Santana is worth $25, but we know Zito isn't worth $18 mil.

He is not going down hill, his 'low' year was pretty good.
A lot of Yankee fans predicted 25-30 wins for a 40 year old Randy Johnson, that's getting ahead of yourself. Santana is 28/29, he will be good for another 6 years.

He's worth all of it, because of his early season dominance. In his first 10 games throughout his career he has only lost 5 times with a 30-5 record. This guy also racks up ERA's under 3 every season. If the Red sox or Yankees hired them, their pitching would be immediately cured, or strengthened, because of him at the top of the lineup. I wouldn't say he is the best pitcher in the history of the game, but he definetely is one of the best.

His curveball, sinker, and change develop the game of baseball and he can get 7 strikeouts a game sometimes 12. This guy will be throwing until he is 45.

325 Career Wins
4,090 Career Strikeouts
3.56 Career Earned Run average.

he will be nicely well worth the money into the first 4/5 years into the settlement. After that, he will slowly fade away a lifeless ringer for Pedro. yet, overall, the deal the Mets reached with Santana change right into a impressive deal. He can furnish 20 wins for years yet to go back. With Santana, i have self belief the Mets might want to somewhat make it to the international sequence. yet, from thier we ought to attend and note if thier bullpen can delay and thier offense. undergo in concepts, the Mets nonetheless have a nasty bullpen and a ok offense. Reyes, Wright, and Beltran are the in basic terms genuine stars in my eye. Delgado will probable get injured because of his previous age, Brian Schnieder will be so so, Jose Castillo will hit .280 - .290, and properly container and Left container dont have any means to have a sturdy season. With Santana, the Mets will win about 95 video games. to be able to get lower back to the point, definite, Santana change into nicely well worth the 7 years and 151 million the Mets presented them.

If not the best he is certainly one of the elite few pitchers in MLB. He has the kind of talent that can put a good team over the top and lead them to a championship. There is so much money in baseball that a pitcher of his ability is certainly worth a long term contract in the $20 million to $30 million range per year.

If the San Francisco Giants can Pay Barry Zito 18.6 million per year then Johan is worth at least 20 million, but realistically no one is worth 20 million per year.

He's lefthanded, good in the postseason, not a distraction on the team, and he does have two Cy Young awards to his name. His ERA is always low, even if it isn't below 3.00. Fiscal responsibility dictates that you don't sign this guy, but somebody will, and he will get way more than Zito got with the Giants. You can take that to the bank.

That wasn't his walk year you idiot. This would be his walk year. This is the last year in his current contract. And he is the best pitcher in baseball! Two Cy Youngs in three years! He is still a shut down pitcher......the Twins couldn't score any runs last year for him. Just like in 2005 when Bartolo Colon won the Cy Young award.....Santana had way better numbers except he had 16 wins compared to Colon's 20. A Pitcher can't always control his win's and losses.

This wasn't his walk year, he's signed through 2008.

Nobody's said he's going to get 7 years. I've heard 5 or 6 tops.

He's definitely worth 20+ for 6.
