I hear a lot of people jumping on the Ohio State and Notre Dame national championship bandwagons. Although I believe that both of those teams could end up in a BCS game, I don't think that either of them will end up as the national champion. (A combination of a loss of starters and of difficult schedules will see to that.) The team that I believe will win the 2006 college football national championship will be West Virginia. They have 49 lettermen returning on a team that went 11-1 last year and beat Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. Among those returning will be the starting quarterback Pat White, wide receiver Brandon Barrett, and the MVP of last year's Sugar Bowl, tailback Steve Slaton. Their two toughest games will be at Louisville and at Pittsburgh, so their schedule is pretty favorable.
So what do you think? How likely is it that West Virginia will be 2006 Division I college football champion?
