Pete Rozelle was commissioner of the NFL for 29 years. Paul Tagliabue was commissioner for 17 years. Even though he's only 47 years old, Roger Goodell will have a difficult time approaching that kind of longevity.

Don't get me wrong. Goodell was the obvious choice and the best choice to succeed Tagliabue. He's bright, he gets along with everyone, he knows the league inside out and he was at Tagliabue's side for all the key decisions in recent years.


But the job is just too tough. It gets tougher every year. The more money that is involved, the bigger the egos get and the bigger the issues.


Goodell will do a good job. But keeping in check the egos of 32 multi-millionaire owners, catering to the demands of players and networks, maintaining the level of fan and sponsor support and dealing with all the other influences makes this the most demanding job in the league by a factor of many.

Rate Goodell's chances at lasting as the new Commissioner of the NFL on a scale of 1-10.

If so, which race are you going to run? (Los Angeles, Chicago or Miami?) Did you do the 3 Run Hit Wonder Races? What do think about Nike only offering a five mile race instead of a 5k and 10k? I have done all the races in Los Angeles and look forward to the training runs starting on Monday in Pasadena!

I get tired of people jumping up and down about steroids. The fact is that they prolonged his career and whats wrong with that? People don't die from doing steroids. There's the odd case when someone abuses them. No different then abusing anything. Should we ban burgers because people eat too many and kill themselves with obesity? You think Babe and the boys wouldn't have taken them if he had the chance? The guy smoked drank and did everything under the sun but he's our hero? I'm sick of the whole steroid issue theyre never going away so why not legalize it? Times change and discoveries are made. They are far better for you than smoking or drinking but society just goes on and on about how bad they are. Meanwhile all the people in congress smoke and drink but thats better? And furthermore if you want to get technical Bonds also has to face juiced up pitchers that the Babes never did. The only people who undermine his achievements are people who grew up watching the Babe. Get over it.
