Is it expensive??? Hell yes! I think it's very expensive. But let's clarify a few things. If you just want to learn something like Karate or Taekwondo, then it's not expensive because those schools come a dime a dozen so they are usually cheap. If you want to learn something hardcore like Muay Thai or Jujitsu, you will pay dearly, particularly if the instructor is good and has credentials to back it up. I live in Atlanta and we have some of the best martial arts instructors in the country for Muay Thai and Jujitsu. If you live out in the midwest or a place that may not have a huge martial arts following in general, you can find some good schools for a decent price. if you want to learn a rare martial art, something that you don't see everyday (ie. Krav Maga, Stick fighting, Sanshou), you can also get an ok price on some classes. The second part to your question, anyone who is serious about getting good at martial arts as quick as possible will attend classes atleast 3 times a week.

The Martial Art that you do and the area that you live have everything to do with cost. I do Karate and pay $75 a month and can go to clsss as much as I want (6 times a week).
My nephew takes Tae-Kwon-Do and pays $110 a month plus orginization dues, plus has to buy patches for his uniform. He can only go twice a week and pays a fortune.
Some Arts are more expensive that others (like Tae-Kwon-Do).
Go to class at least two times a week. Anything less and you won't advance, get upset and quit. Anything over four a week and you'll burn yourself out.
Go around your area and visit all the different clubs, Watch a class and see if you like it. Most clubs will let you take a free class to see if you enjoy it. Find one that really interests you and is fun and go for it.
You should pay between $50 and $80 a month U.S. Anything more is too much. Don't sign up for a yearly contract, three months at a time is enough.
Have Fun!

Price depends on where you live and which school you attend. I currently pay about $140 per month. My old school charged $340 a month. Ugh!

I thought I trained about 3 days a week. But looking at my attendance card, I seem to train twice per week. I have to step it up! To really improve, you need to go 3-4 times/week or more.

I lived in Manhattan where it cost about $125/mo to train with unlimited classes (classes offered from about 7am to 10pm every hour M-Saturday).
Live now in Vegas, classes are $75/mo with one class per day during the morning (can't go..work) and one class at night per day.
I go 5 days per week with each class being 90 min.
If you go less than 3-4 times a week it is not worth it. Becareful of McDojo's where you have a lot of belts, high testing fees, and fees that are a lot more than other studios -- USSD, ATA are examples.

ITF Tae Kwon Do: *Initial fee of $200 with a one year contract *$85 a month *I can go as many classes as i want per week. *Testing doesn't cost any money but you have to buy your belt if you successfully graduate(that's from white to senior brown belt) *Belts are about $30 *Black belt you do have to pay a fee when you test, not sure whats the price(probably like $500)

.Depends on the style you chose. Somewhere around $50 a month. About going to classes twice a week to start with farther you go in the class and depending why your going (self defense, tournaments, pro fighter) always remember to practice.
