Okay, so I have been wanting to convert for years and years. I have been studying since 7th grade to become an Orthodox Jew and have been trying to practice as much as possible within the law without violating it--I want to convert by my 18th birthday which is this summer, so I would need to start studying last month...I'm hoping that since I've been studying on my own for so long it won't take as long as it normally might.

Anyways, the only thing left to do is to take the jump in calling the rabbi. However, I am afraid. The rabbi in charge of Geirus at the CRC doesn't seem very friendly and I am very shy, I am also afraid of getting rejected very roughly because I have wanted this so long.

Does there exist somewhere a list of Orthodox Jewish rabbis in the Chicago area who do conversions?

Any other help or anything else you have to offer is appreciated.

Thank you so much...

A youth pastor at a pentecostal church told his young followers that they couldn't be "friend" friends with non-christians, only acquaintances. As an example, he said, "Imagine you knew someone who was a rapist. You could be their acquaintance, but not their friend." How do you feel about equating non-christians to rapists? How about saying non-christians and christians can only be acquaintances?

Is this even in the Bible or is it just something that people say? Also, is this seen in other religions? Thanks! (I'm giving a speech and part of it is related to this)

I just read an answer to another question (the particular question and answer aren't really important here) that said "God is in absolute control, but He does give us the right to choose." This confuses me. How can we truly have the ability to make our own choices if someone else has "complete control" over us? I'm not trying to be flippant about this. This is an honest question!

The media seems to think so. Isn't it both the same thing? Religious intolerance?

They say that the Israelites are 12 tribes descended from the 12 sons of Israel (Jacob). However, would Jacob's daughter Dinah also be considered an Israelite?

I am a Christian and I mean hardcore Christian.

I have so much faith in Jesus that it flows out of my veins.

However, I am not a good person. I sin alot; and I mean alot.

I lie, steal, cheat, and hurt people. I can't stop it eventhough I know it is bad.

Everytime I sin I ask God for forgiveness. I don't just ask for forgiveness just like that; I am sincere about it.

However, I keep on sinning like hell and I enjoy it as hell. When I am done I ask for forgiveness.

I have a brother that despises me of my conduct. He on the other hand is an unbelievablly good person. He is a saint compared to me being a devil.

The twist is he is not a Christian and he even opposes every religion in this world claiming that religion is the cause of so much suffering in the world.

He says Jesus was just a man and he'll never change his mind.

Well, who cares? I am going to heaven and my brother is going to hell, or atleast he won't be in heaven.

This is a real story.

Why can't Christians be as moral and educated as Atheists?

2007-11-11 13:50:04 · 12 answers · asked by Anonymous

I have been looking at the profiles of some of the "atheists" that seem to answer all of the questions in R&S. They are so determined to challenge we beleivers. My question is why are you so vehement about this topic? Okay, you don't believe. Whatever. But why go out of your way to put down those of us that do? Why be so negative towards we who follow Jesus? Even if you don't believe that Jesus is the son of God, his teachings are beautiful. Why have it your mission to put down a man who says God loves each of us? Do you think perhaps something sinister is feuling you? Why not let each person believe what they want? It isn't hurting anyone. There are the extremists in every case. I understand being put off by those that preach damnation to gays.....but that is definately the minority. Can't we all just get along?

i've been raised as a catholic...but not deeply involved in anything really. just my religious ed program.
so it is almost time for me to "become an adult in the church" aka make my confirmation. it's a big step for a catholic i guess.
but at the same time, i don't know if this is really what i want. since i'm 15 it's not like i've ever had a say in what religion to be. but i've become independent and i'm starting to think about things more.
i do believe in God, but there are christian beliefs that i do not agree with. ex: it's against christian faith to be gay
so i feel like i'm in my own religion! either that or i'm like half catholic half something else...
any suggestions on what to try? or who to talk to? and i will not choose to be an atheist, i need God.
(thanks for actually reading all of that)

In light of these Bible verses found in John 15:1-8 what does this mean when God prunes us? I know for a fruit tree needs to be cut back in order to grow. But how does the pruning of a Christian produce good fruit and what and How does the Lord "prune" us? Thank you for your answers and the Lord bless you:)

Since the God states that we are to keep the Sabbath Holy, and that it is to be a day of rest, why, as Christians, do we not obey this command? Why do we attend church and so forth on Sunday, and not Saturday? Why do so few Christians keep Holy the Sabbath?

and to let me know who that person is when I meet him. Is that a sensible prayer that God would answer? If God knows my heart (that I want the two of us to grow closer and be a stronger tool for God together than we are apart.)

Is it possible that He could not want me to ever meet that special someone and follow His plan alone?
