I really don't think many, if any, Christians would encourage a person to believe as they wish.
The reason for this question: I met a gentleman (Christian) who was going through a particularly hard time. He had contracted viral meningitis, and was left paralyzed. He was blaming the god of his religion for his problems. This fella is not exactly super bright and has little, if any, education. With his health and lack of medical knowledge, I really believe that he NEEDS his faith. I explained that this is a medical illness that is beyond our control, and that no god nor demon had anything to do with it. After a while he started to agree with me. I then encouraged him to go to church and at least take some comfort in the fellowship. The last time I saw him, he was smiling and inviting me to go to church with him. I explained that I do not share his religious faith, but if i could make the time, I would love to attend with him. How many of you would do what's right? I know it was right.

If we can genetically engineer bacteria in a petri-dish, then couldn't aliens be doing that with our dumba.s.ses? The bacteria aren't conscious enough to know they are, so what makes us think we are?

Why do you need to live luxurious lives? Are you as devoted as you think you are?

Ezekiel 23
3 and they committed whoredoms in Egypt; they committed whoredoms in their youth: there were their breasts pressed, and there they bruised the teats of their virginity.
4 And the names of them were Aho'lah the elder, and Ahol'ibah her sister: and they were mine, and they bare sons and daughters. Thus were their names; Samaria is Aho'lah, and Jerusalem Ahol'ibah.
5 And Aho'lah played the harlot when she was mine; and she doted on her lovers, on the Assyrians her neighbors,
6 which were clothed with blue, captains and rulers, all of them desirable young men, horsemen riding upon horses.
7 Thus she committed her whoredoms with them, with all them that were the chosen men of Assyria, and with all on whom she doted: with all their idols she defiled herself.
8 Neither left she her whoredoms brought from Egypt: for in her youth they lay with her, and they bruised the breasts of her virginity, and poured their whoredom upon her.

companies to force us to take religious programming with their "packages" ? Shouldn't we be able to choose alternative programs . Wouldn't there be an uproar if these companies insisted on people allowing porno into their homes and making them pay for it ?

just stated that a turtle can never be a horse, that evolution is not one species turning into another species, that that is a theist's misconception of evolution. Do not evolutionists TEACH that we started as a single cell organism, eventually evolved into fish, then into a creature that crawled out of the water onto land, eventually became mammal, then eventually into a common ancestor of both ape and human? Well that sure DOES sound like species to species evolution, so what gives?

The Bible claims God is a Spirit.
The Bible claims that Man has a Spirit.

Yet you as an Atheist make it very clear that you reject the Bible and Spirituality.

Yet you are here answering the same question that is posed because of the contradiction in your stated beliefs, and statements about your beliefs. How can you be spiritual?

straight , gay, trans , etc. supplied by a local sex items store ? Do you think that it is right to expect Atheists and other Non Bible -Believers to be accepting that a Gideon Bible be placed there ? It is not like a bottle of shampoo we may not want to use or a cable X rated TV show that has to be ordered .

In all honesty do you think the world would be a better place without christianity and other similar religions? Although christians have caused alot of misery, they have also created moral standards such as no killing or no theft, although we may still have social standards like this, do you really think that a potential serial killer wouldnt commit the act if not fearing eternal damnation? I as an Agnostic try to think that even without christianity and such people would stil know killing and such isnt a good practice, but not all people are the same. What are your thoughts?

Don't you think it would be a good idea to understand the other person's point of view before we agree or disagree with a person?

I've seen so many misconceptions about evolution on both sides of the argument. Many times it's because one person's understanding of evolution is totally different from another person's understanding. When that happens we're just talking past each other.

Describe it. Give examples.

I'm ready to listen. I want to understand you before I agree or disagree with you.

You may not be a member of any denomination, but if you are actually a practicing Christian, I know enough you should be attending church services to be following your doctrine. I have requested Christians to state an affiliation. I can tune into your views. But if you fail to state a denomination, I am going to consider you Roman Catholic as it is the largest church in Christianity, though debatably the oldest with the Armenian, Alexanderian and Antioch bishops. And everything from there will be considered Catholic doctrine. Deviate from it I will identify you as an apostate and perhaps heretic.

As a kid, I was in a situation where I felt intense distress and terror, afraid to move, with no where to go - I can't exactly explain, but I somehow did run, sort of, it was weird. One minute I was one place, the next I was somewhere else. In the center of it all was Jesus who appeared as a light, which reached out all around for an immeasurable distance. There were many others around him. It was wonderful. It was happy and joyful and I never wanted to leave. Imagine a place, where it is not possible for anything evil to even exist. Where anything evil even remotely approaching would just come apart. Imagine the best memory of your life, the best feelings you ever felt, the place you love the best, the persons you love the most and who loved you best - it was all those things and more. Communication was emotions, not words. I knew it would all be ok and after a bit was sent back to find I was untouched and unharmed and what I feared gone, poof.

Okay, my wife just came back from this conference on "Virtues". I like virtues, I think they are swell. But all the reference material (which cost a fortune, by the way) is loaded with christian concepts. Like the words "faith", "morality", "created", etc, etc. I told my wife what I thought, and she said, "just take out the words you don't like and use the rest", but , dangit, isn't that like taking the flour out of a cake?

Alright so I was creeping on some other questions and since I'm not Catholic I thought I'd ask (Don't be offended I'm truly ignorant of this stuff). So if God is all forgiving and loves his children, why does he send some of them to hell? Doesn't this defeat the purpose of a merciful God? I mean could he not rehabilitate the sinners and non believers with his being all powerful? Make them see the error of their ways? Eternal damnation sounds a little harsh to the outside observer.

There are a lot of good Christians on here who I happen to be very fond of. There are also some first class nutjobs that just manage to give me ammo for obnoxious questions. lol
Have you ever gotten to the point that you just wanted to see how much you can annoy them in return? Good night and pleasant dreams to all, and may the morning find you well.

I believe in a higher power which I call God for lack of a better term. I pray to my God for his/her will to be done. I recently found this higher power after considering myself Agnostic for several years. I don't buy into to Christianity but can't find anything else to relate to. Any suggestions I could look into?

at a church function tonight we had God protesters, after I finished laughing I said I dare you to live your life and let us live ours, why do you ? what I believe in and why does it matter if I am believing in a lie or a truth? It is every man or woman for themselves now, I don't worry what you believe in I am not trying to convince anyone there is a God, if there is Great if there isn't good for you, why are you here trying to tell me my child should be out begging for candy? Mind your own business and get out of here or tell me why you are here, really, are you afraid of my God or what? my answer was some idiot threw a cupcake at me and I poured my water bottle on myself and said now what , they called me crazy and left. so I think they are daring us to concvince them and I wont do that. opinions please,

Are Jews a race? My thought is that no, they are not, but they do in fact share similar genetics and people (such as hitler) have been referred to as 1/4th jewish. This imlpies that being a jew is a race because you can't be 1/4th catholic or 1/8 atheist.

You guys talk to imaginary beings, you terrorize your children with horrific stories of people being crucified, you believe that all people are born as some kind of criminals…the list is endless. Surely you can see that this is definitely not the behavior of sane people. So what’s wrong with being harmlessly crazy? If I was to call you guys dangerously crazy, that would be an insult, but thankfully, most of you aren’t that crazy.
