straight , gay, trans , etc. supplied by a local sex items store ? Do you think that it is right to expect Atheists and other Non Bible -Believers to be accepting that a Gideon Bible be placed there ? It is not like a bottle of shampoo we may not want to use or a cable X rated TV show that has to be ordered .

Lucid , I find the Bible to be as offensive as many Christians find porno to be . I do not think looking at porno is immoral . I understand your point that I might have substituted pro Atheism literature for porno in my original question . But my point is that porno is not pro or anti any religion . It just is , and how you interpet it . Just like the Bible .

would I be offended? no. Would i look at it. no---actually, I might be curious and look at some of it, not to dwell on it or jerk off, but as a curiousity. No big deal. And if they give me a bottle of shampoo that I do not wish to use, that would not offend me either.

Allure, I hope you arent suggesting that an atheist's item to a Christian's bible is porn from a sex shop. Atheists arent immoral in general; and I highly doubt their "important books" are porn. How about a scientific journal or something to make your point.

EDIT: To be fair and impartial as an atheist, I will assume you as well are "offended" by all ancient texts that offer any sort of religious ground? That would include Islam, Jewish, Pagan, Celtic, Buddhism, etc. So what it seems you are saying is no religious belief should be allowed to be offered to anyone in any hotel room in the US? I would say this to you. Alot of people staying in hotels are at a point in their lives where they have lost hope. A couple separating, an abused woman fleeing for the night, I really could go on. If there is any hope that this book sitting quietly hidden in a nightstand that could help AND hotels are not government owned, I cant see Christian or not someone being sp upset by it. I would suggest you complain to the hotel you visit, or try to find some where they do not offer the option of the bible, or ask them ahead of time to remove it. That might be a good idea for you to save yourself the expense of being offended. You must be American. I am as well, and am surrounded by this entitled offended culture daily.

As a Christian, I wouldn't be offended. I am an adult, and human sexuality doesn't bother me. I don't quite see the full parallel between a drawer full of porn and a Bible, though, because the porn would indeed be offensive (and potentially illegal) in the presence of children (kids frequently stay in hotels with their parents), whereas a Bible would not. Having said that, if you don't like the Bible, nobody's forcing you to read it. It can sit quietly in the drawer gathering dust, if you prefer. I don't belong to a denomination that goes around placing Bibles in every hotel room in America, but they're there, and they can be easily enough ignored. In my personal opinion, if one sacred text is placed in a hotel room, then they should all be placed there, but that would lead to a very full drawer.

Maybe your analogy would work better with "A Brief History of Time" as opposed to porno.

Porn wouldn't bother me but the Gideons bible would be better.

We can only control what we ourselves do and think, we have no business trying to force others to do as we wish, although we are free to share our beliefs, just not force them on anyone. If you find a porno, yes it may be disturbing to you, but you are the only one responsible for your response to it. Its not anyone else's fault for not having your beliefs.

I think "The Origin of Species" by Charles Darwin would be more appropriate.
