It's the persecution complex. Hitler was good at convincing the German people that they were being persecuted by a minority of Jews and gypsies...and look what happened then.

How can an atheist pose a threat to the freedom of my religion? I don't feel threatened by atheists. There are a few atheists who do not respect my right to believe the way I do, but they are not a threat, just disrespectful. If you are talking about the ones who want to take in "God we trust "off of money, or don't want prayer in school etc, that is not threatening either. God will always be here, nothing they do will ever change that. And if they succeed in doing that, it will not change my freedom to believe anyway I want to. This country was built on the premiss that all are equal, and that we are to have freedom of religion. If they think they can change that, then let them try.

Have you ever read your Bible? "Atheists are filthy, corrupt, no good doing, despicable fools." This is the kind of hateful crap in your book that you cherish. By you being part of a disrespectful belief system, you ARE putting atheists down and gays just to name a few that your little creed teaches disgust towards. I'm just glad I'm in a time where most Christians don't follow their Bible, or I would be ducking stones daily. Your Bible also commands the stoning to death of atheists. It amazes me that Christians can read about all the filthy things the Bible says about atheists and then be completely oblivious to the thought of atheists not condoning that CRAP. Wake up and pay attention to whats in your Bible and then you wouldn't have to ask such stupid questions. You know dam well if anyone condemned you like that, you wouldn't have any respect what so ever for them. I have no respect for your hateful belief system because it has no respect for anyone but the ones who follow it and even that is questionable. Edit: Not to mention many Christians want to change the government to a theocracy. The last time that happened it was called the DARK AGES. Someone has to have the sense to avoid that. Your welcome.

the other way around makes perfectly good sense . this coutry of freedom of religion came from disbelief in religious superiority prejudice and sought to distinquish the hand of religious abuse and intolerance. Now how about the same for atheists much like some of the deists who sought to extricate themselves from persecution when the original govt. was formed .

Not having a convenient excuse to feed the persecution complex.
ADDENDUM: Francine, why do you have such a fixation with atheists and homosexual people? Do you have a little Larry Craig problem going on, here? Perhaps a guilty conscience?

I don't, none have ever tackled me on my way into a church or anything. I don't consider opposing viewpoints an attempt to eliminate my religion

There aren't nearly as many Christians who are worried about atheists threatening their freedom of religion as there are atheists worrying about Christians threatening theirs.

I don't, and never have. In fact, one thing that I can agree upon with my atheist friends is that we all strongly support the separation of church and state.
