at a church function tonight we had God protesters, after I finished laughing I said I dare you to live your life and let us live ours, why do you ? what I believe in and why does it matter if I am believing in a lie or a truth? It is every man or woman for themselves now, I don't worry what you believe in I am not trying to convince anyone there is a God, if there is Great if there isn't good for you, why are you here trying to tell me my child should be out begging for candy? Mind your own business and get out of here or tell me why you are here, really, are you afraid of my God or what? my answer was some idiot threw a cupcake at me and I poured my water bottle on myself and said now what , they called me crazy and left. so I think they are daring us to concvince them and I wont do that. opinions please,

This should give you an idea on why atheists care about religion in general: (source 1)

To summarize it, we care because theists have proven time and time again that they are incapable of keeping their faith to themselves, instead trying to impose it on everyone else, atheists included. This even goes as far as attempting to make their beliefs LAW, thereby literally FORCING everyone to follow their 'rules.' Many atheists are also justified in saying something like "you started it by calling us sinners and condemning us to eternal punishment and suffering just for not having the same beliefs as you."

You show me a Christian or any other theist who keeps his or her faith personal (as faith is supposed to be), and I'll show you a person I (an atheist) have no beef with. I may think their beliefs are ridiculous, but that is my right. I'm sure every Christian here thinks Scientology is ridiculous.

One more point--I don't think religion should be given a 'free pass' when it comes to criticism. Unlike race or hair color, religion is, in the end, a conscious decision. To fault someone for this decision (if you think they've made a bad decision) is NOT comparable to faulting someone for their race, gender, age, or anything like that.

If someone came up to you and told you that they were absolutely sure that aliens teamed up with ghosts to cause 9/11, you'd think they were a fool, I'm sure. But theism has no evidence nor logical foundation either, hence the term "faith." Please do not forget why it is called "faith." A theist has every reason to EXPECT criticism the moment they start pretending that their faITH is faCT. If someone tries to act like their faith is factual, then people will start demanding evidence, because those are the rules of the game, after all. Things just don't spontaneously become facts--they have to be supported with evidence.

P.S. Less mature theists will claim that if atheists frequent some spot on the Internet about religion, then it's because they're secretly questioning their atheism etc., but if atheists mostly _avoid_ that same spot, it's because they claim atheists are afraid/unable to challenge a theist's arguments. They've got something bad to say no matter what we do--wouldn't you agree that's unfair?

I'm athiest and very much like the vast majority of Christians. I hope your experience with the protesters doesn't turn you against everyone not Christian. Besides athiests, there are many very good Jews, Muslims, Buddhists and others. I can only hope for betterstanding beteween religions and their divisions. My biggest grip, and not just Christians, is people that will not take a look at other religions. Perhaps not from their view, but academically is a great way to get balance.

Personally I would not be too fond of a church having a hell house for holloween. But holloween isn't my favorite holiday considering its history. I may be athiest but certainly oppose worship that supports evil.

I'm actually uncertain, but believe Tyra Banks is a Christian. And I have watched how she handles racists and some religious zealots (one of which said the victims of the trade towers got that reward from god because they were all homosexuals as well as all the soldiers in Iraq) All I can say is Tyra handled things as I would expect and admire in a true Christian. Maybe you should say more about the cupcake and water?

A grown man threw a cupcake at a defenseless woman? How masculine! What city do you live in?

Where I come from, only once every 3 or 4 years, some freak sets a fire outside a synagogue and they're always caught and thrown in the Big House! Religious freedom is REAL in Canada!

You ARE a little nuts though. lol

I had a lengthy reply in my head, but God = √-1's post above pretty much says everything I would have. My only addition is to say that perhaps you should read your own post, take note of the part about "I don't worry what you believe," and then try to objectively determine whether your religion as a whole plays by or even offers lip-service to that rule. An honest answer just might depress you.

This is a good video that will explain why we atheists care about religion.

You can believe what you want, but you Christians insist on proselytizing and trying to make this country a Christian nation. If you had no history in school, let me remind you that this country is made up of people of ALL religions and every one of them is just as good of a citizen as you are and they deserve respect for their beliefs as well. Which is another beef with Christians, you don't care about others beliefs and right to have them, only about your own because you think you are the only ones who are right. Well so doesn't every other religious person. Those of us who don't believe in gods and religion also deserve the right to what we believe, but you Christians won't leave us alone. You come on here every day disrespecting us for our lack of belief. Sorry about the cupcake, but pouring your water on yourself wasn't a rational act.

I don't allow my son to talk to strangers and I also don't allow him to take candy from strangers either.
I don't want him celebrating an evil holiday which goes against my own personal spiritual beliefs and in my opinion this is good parenting.
The reason why they do this to Christians is they hate the idea of God punishing them for every immoral depraved act they've ever committed and are taking their anger towards Him out on us.
Those people are Satan's children and God said in
Genesis 3:15 "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed.
So there will always be hostilities between Christians and Satanists.
There will come a day when there won't be anymore churches because it won't be safe to worship God in public so for the meantime while it's still relatively safe enjoy worshiping God in public while you still can.

While I have my disagreements with religion, I don't think it's right to stand outside a church building with picket signs and acting like a moron.

I agree; you should be free to practice whichever faith you like without fearing for your lives. Get a restraining order, move to some location, or just stay where you are. I doubt these "god protesters" will do anything rash.

Hmm... do you think it might be because Christians bother THEM? just a thought. I'm with God = √-1 and I also think you are being purposely blind.

Wait, do you mean that non-Christians started to picket your church function?

Where the heck do you live? This is virtually non-existent in my city. I agree that people should not heckle each other over religion or non-religion. Thanks for posting this.
