Why do you need to live luxurious lives? Are you as devoted as you think you are?

Realchurch, I'm referring to those who have not (not the missionaries). And yes, I know the Pope's are damn rich thanks to people like you.

Boy: I don't know why you wear a bra, you've got nothing to put in it!

Girl: Erm.. You wear pants, don't you?

Wow. Could you frame the discussion in a more offensive manner?

But here is an answer anyways.

Where in the Bible or any Christian teaching is it taught that possessing wealth is wrong? Living exclusively for wealth, and the accumulation of material goods is wrong, but there is nothing inherently wrong with being wealthy and giving all of your wealth to others is not required.

Also when it is said that Jesus is all a person needs, that is in a spiritual sense. Jesus never taught that people should sell all of their possessions and give away all of their wealth - how can a person care for themselves and their family of they did so. Jesus taught that caring for your physical well-being took precedence over your spiritual well-being (when he and the disciples harvested food to eat on the Sabbath).

Did you ever think that maybe Christians who have a luxurious lifestyle are being blessed for the good works they have done or the strength of their faith? Of course you didn't, because that wouldn't have allowed you to ask a question in an offensive manner.

Edit:

ghengis - The "eye of a needle" parable you cite refers to what I mentioned above - people who live exclusively for wealth - not necessarily someone who has been blessed with wealth but still leads a virtuous life.

I'm an athiest and pretty much did. My profile shows that. No not Jesus. In my case, "All I need is Love." Still working on that, but I get my love from my dog and 6 ferrets. And a great deal of satisfaction doing lots of volunteer work. I admit my greedy evil reasons. It's that great feeling I get inside for helping people and my community. Only wish I could do more.

I think some of the Christians skipped the verse about the welthy entering heaven like a camel going through the eye of a needle. Actually they're missing out. While there are needed things, having less is so rewarding. Call it carefree.

Do you know how many have done this? The missionary force is living a life of relative poverty, though their needs are met.

One funny little thing about the history of Europe, is that where ever you find large communities of Bible Believing Christians (not Catholics) you find wealth. This correlation holds true throughout history.

Occitania was the USA equivalent of the Dark Ages. They had religious freedom, lighted streets, good waste management, lived relatively disease free, had very high literacy, were wealthy, and had a high density of Bible Believers in the population (to the chagrin of the Pope).

It was Southern France.

God has given us nice things, blessing as GIFTS! He doesn't want us to be poor... Also He has given things to us to share to others. Many people in the bible that God chosen and His faithful servants have been rich. Some people have worked really hard to have these luxuries and they are rewarded. It's also a test were you heart is. It depends on what you do with what you got. Do you trust your riches or your stuff to save you? Do love money or worship your things? And we should love God more than earthly stuff. He also wants us to care and share with others.

Because then they'd have to actually practice what they think they're preaching. The spirit is willing but the flesh still has to pay the bills, I guess.

I've often wondered about that. Few of them seem to want to live like Jesus Christ

Yes, I am. And I have sold almost all my stuff and given the money to the poor. I suggest you know the facts before you accuse.

Ir would be nice if you gave us a biblical reference, since I can find no verse with that requirement.

Man is body, soul and spirit. God is spirit. We worship God in spirit and in truth.

Answer: Do you really believe possession really matter? Possessions only get in the way towards the kingdom of God.

Good Lord!!!
I wish someone would just come and relieve me of all this junk. Unfortunately, it is not all mine. (I believe in simplicity, I hate having to be slave to the cable company too!)
