believe that if 'human science' makes a mistake, it proves that all scientific data is false,
& that if a 'christan church or science' makes a mistake, the entire basis of faith still remains fact?

13 And Jesus came into the region of Cesarea Philippi: and he asked his disciples: who do people say that the Son of man is?
14 But they said: Some John the Baptist, some Elias, and others Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
15 Jesus said to them: But who do you say I am?
16 Simon Peter answered and said: You are Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 And Jesus answering, said to him: Blessed are you, Simon son of Jona, because flesh and blood have not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.
18 And I say to you: That you are Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever you shall bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever you shall loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven

I dont get how people say Peter wasn't incharge- its right there, can someone please explain how people do not see it?

Or the so-called “leading of the holy Spirit?” Hasn’t this led to crazy interpretations? For example the justification of incest, slavery and the holocaust? The 30 years war between Catholics and Protestants, prejudices, more than 30,000 Christian denominations and the disunity of Christendom? Not to mention cults led by people like Jim Jones and David Koresh who tell their followers to commit suicide? Is this Christ’s way of uniting Christians following his prayer for all of us to be one? I certainly don’t think so.

Jesus prayed that His followers would be ONE.
"that they may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us..." (John 17:21)

St. Paul emphasizes that all followers of Jesus Christ should be ONE.
"Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgement." (1 Cor 1:10)

Why can’t Fundamentalists, Evangelicals and Pentecostals realize that when we bash each other we are effectively bashing Christianity? We have chosen different paths towards the kingdom of God. Why can’t we just walk the path we have chosen and let the other believers follow theirs for the sake of Christianity?

Your honest, prayerful, and Christian opinion will be highly appreciated.

I was thinking about this over the weekend. I think that the average (if such a thing exists!) atheist has a positivist outlook on life. He/she believes that deep down, most people are inherently good, and that we all have the tools within ourselves to be moral people and contribute to society and form meaningful relationships. When such a person makes a bad choice, they see it as an aberration, and not the sign of a character flaw, and decide on their own power to do better next time.

The Christian, on the other hand, has at his/her heart a fundamental sense of "brokenness"--the sense that, without the help of a more powerful and "Good" being, they would tend to make choices that were harmful to themselves or others, because deep down, people are selfish at heart. When such a person makes a bad choice, they see it as a symptom of their inability to do good on their own power, and proof that they need to seek a "Higher Power" to become who they want to/are meant to be.

Thoughts?

IS it crazy that I am obsessing over this? Do you think it is strange that I am scared to have children believing that if Notadamus is correct the world will end in 2012. Thats in 4 years. I cant eat or sleep. And not only is it a prediction by him, but Mayan Calenders stop on the same date. Is anyone else believe this and if not Please tell me why you believe different, I would really like some hope.

Mine is "Song of Songs," because of it's open sensual allegory in describing God. This type of reference really works for my mind.

"I rose to open to my lover,
with my hands dripping myrrh:
With my fingers dripping choice myrrh
upon the fittings of the lock."

And "This is my blood?"

Catholics interpret these passages literally, yet most self-proclaimed Biblical literalists don't. I don't understand this contradiction. Please explain.

Many atheists, including me, have stated that they never felt this "presence of God" you speak of. I have never felt different when I walked into a church, or when I prayed, or whatever. I am a good person, however, as most of you (hopefully) know. So why don't we experience him? What is your explanation for why we don't get that feeling of knowing he is real and he hears us?

I can't seem to find the right words to explain why I think the way I think regarding religion without making my fiance feel as though I am telling him his way is all wrong. I don't mean to suggest that but how else do you really explain atheism? lol
