13 And Jesus came into the region of Cesarea Philippi: and he asked his disciples: who do people say that the Son of man is?
14 But they said: Some John the Baptist, some Elias, and others Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
15 Jesus said to them: But who do you say I am?
16 Simon Peter answered and said: You are Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 And Jesus answering, said to him: Blessed are you, Simon son of Jona, because flesh and blood have not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.
18 And I say to you: That you are Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever you shall bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever you shall loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven

I dont get how people say Peter wasn't incharge- its right there, can someone please explain how people do not see it?

CJ: (1) if Jesus is the rock, He would have said, I am the rock on which I building My church. (2) Even if He said that, 19 gives Peter power over the church that Jesus built. 'I give you the keys' - or did Jesus have keys to a building and hand them over?

The cafeteria Christians, AKA "Bible Fundies" are twisting Scriptures again. As usual they are using a condensed version of the Catholic Book, the Bible, to attack the Church that wrote it. The Bible is of the Church and about the Church. It is through the Church that it is understood properly. Separated from the Church and from the Holy Spirit that guides the Church we can see that the Bible can become the tool of Satan to attack Christ's Church and an idol to those who read it in the vacuum of their own minds. May the Lord have mercy on those so decieved.

Christ was saying how He would place Peter, the little rock, upon the greater rock, that is Jesus Christ, Himself. All the apostles, all of God's children, are living stones, built upon the solid rock of Christ. He is the head of the church and the chief cornerstone of its foundation. Catholics and others like to use this verse to claim Peter's headship of the church, which is error. Once Christ is no longer head of the church and man is, then church tradition becomes as or more important for doctrine and belief than God's Holy Word. When the Word and church tradition conflict, it is often the Word that is wrongly disregarded.

Ephesians 1:22-23 "And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all."

Ephesians 5:23 "For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is the head of the church, and He is the Savior of the body."

Colossians 1:17-18 "And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence."

The bible is very clear that it is Christ who is Head of the church, who is preeminent in all things, not Peter. Without the head, the body dies. Without Christ as Head of the church, the body of the church dies.

there is no longer something like looking the steadiness of the genuine Rock of my Salvation! while dealing with a typhoon, i'm no longer tossed approximately. Jesus is the Rock, my commencing place. I in basic terms love this passage, as I quite have experienced the two facets and am constantly grateful to Jesus for saving and assisting me. i do no longer comprehend the section approximately Peter being the commencing place. i understand that Jesus had a purpose for asserting that, yet no longer something like human beings have made it to be. The enemy has meticulously(?) outfitted a shape that folk have used to hunt for God and used human beings's fake impression of that verse to do it. God tolerated it and nevertheless labored by way of it, yet there'll be a time while the actuality will pop out and an excellent type of individuals would be very shocked and intensely unhappy approximately it. simply by fact they have allowed themselves to be deceived. by ability of ways, do you understand what Jesus meant while He mentioned that approximately Peter?

This is the rock of the church It's very cornerstone
"You are Christ, the Son of the living God. "

Peter was a great Apostle a witness of the life, teachings, death, and resurrection of our Lord. Is that great... YOU BET... Did He take the lead in many aspects of the Church ..YES. Did Paul have to give Him correction...Yes. None of the Apostles was unimportant. We must remember that Jesus is the head of the Church. The Apostles and the Prophets are the foundation. We willing to be lead by Christ and take direction through the Apostles we are the Church.. Following anyone else as they follow Christ we become members of a church.. Hoping you can see the differance... IHS Jim

DOES THESE SCRIPTURES PORTRAY THE HEAD OF CHRIST CHURCH????????????????????????????

Gal 2:11 But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, NOTE: 'because he was to be blamed'.

Gal 2:12 For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, NOTE: 'he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision'.

Gal 2:13 And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation.

Gal 2:14 NOTE: 'But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel', I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?

Matthew 16:13-18 (King James Version)

13When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
14And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
15He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
16And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
18And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

This is the Revelation of Jesus Christ that Peter had. Peter knew who Jesus was and understood the Godhead. The Father in heaven revealed this unto Peter.

Acts 2:38 (King James Version)

38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Why did Peter say this? Because he had the Revelation of Jesus Christ given by God.
Why does the catholic church not baptize this way? I thought Peter was the head of their church but they don't follow what he had to say.

Ephesians 2:20
And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

THIS ROCK IS JESUS THE "CHIEF CORNER STONE"

Have you ever wrote a book ? I'm thinking that if I write a book , what I'm seeing in my mind is what I'm trying to put on paper. When the book has been finished I can read it and "see" what I was seeing during the writing.

When someone else reads my book they envision as they read, and probably come close to some of the things I was seeing as I wrote, but unless they can get into MY mind they can never experience ALL of what I envisioned as I wrote.

So, to understand the Bible we must be in the mind of God. This is called revelations...

Deuteronomy 29:29 The secret things belong unto the Lord our God; but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

MATTHEW 16:13-19 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias or one of the prophets. He saith unto them, But whom say YE that I am ? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto Him, Blessed art thou Simon Barjona: for FLESH and BLOOD hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say ALSO unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock ( REVELATION) I will build My church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. AND I will give unto thee the KEY of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth SHALL be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt LOOSE on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Isaiah 28:9 Whom shall He teach knowledge? And whom shall He make to understand doctrine? Them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.

1st. Corinthians 2; 14-16 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them because THEY ARE SPIRITUALLY DISCERNED.

1st. Corinthians 2;16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that He may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

1st. Corinthians 2;10 But God hath revealed them unto us BY HIS SPIRIT; for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

This is also " The Water of the Word ". 1st John 5:7,8 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood : and these three agree in one.

Ephesians 5:25,26 Husbands, love your wives even as
Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it; that He might sanctify and cleans it with the washing of water by the Word ( with the revelations brought forth by the Word ).

Revelations 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say,Come. And let him that heareth say,Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

John 3:5,6 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit .

When I was getting into the Lord he gave me a hunger for His Word. I was obsessed.
If there was something in the Word that I didn't understand, I would immediately go into fasting and prayer for the understanding. As I was learning more and more, I came up on scripture that seemed to contradict itself. Immediately I went into fasting and prayer. It was only a few moments and the Lord spoke to me and said: " Forget EVERYTHING you have heard from preachers and teachers, and HEAR what the SPIRIT is saying to the church ". Well, it took awhile to get into the habit of hearing God instead of men, but HALLELUIAH it was worth it !!!

I encourage each of you to diligently seek the revelations of the Word !!! KNOW the mind of God.

PEACE AND LOVE in the HOLY GHOST....

Jesus never recognized Peter or anyone else as the leader or pope. To the contrary:

'But be ye not called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren. And call no man your father upon the earth for one is your Father, which is in heaven. Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ. But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whosoever shalt exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.' Matthew 23:8-12.

The apostles never acknowledged Peter in that way when they met in Jerusalem, all documented in the Bible. In fact, Sha'ul (aka Saul, aka Paul) took him to task. Peter was a married man, whose wife traveled with him. You have to read the whole volume, not just one verse.

Even within that verse, the Greek word petros means Peter. Petra means a solid, immovable rock. All this research has been done over and over and described in great length. The verse you cite says, "Upon this petra," not, "Upon petros."

Peter had no autority over anyone in Acts. Peter was never consulted about doctrine. Peter was married. He wasn't a "pope", as there's no "pope" in the Bible.

Jesus is the Head of the church, then and now and always.

Catholics are not saved and are not Christians. Catholics believe a false gospel of works that leads to eternal hell (Galatians 1).

Bible teachers that said the Vatican and the catholic cult are an antichrist: John Bunyan, John Huss, John Wycliffe, John Calvin, William Tyndale, John Knox, Thomas Bacon, John Wesley, Charles Spurgeon, Samuel Cooper, John Cotton, and Jonathan Edwards

Since I came to this country, I observed that some people base everything on the Bible, but the fun part is that they use the Bible as a convenience store, taking what they like and leaving what they don't. They customize God.

That way, they justify anything, even if it is as clear as the light of day. Trying to argue with them is like arguing with an insane person. They will twist the Bible like a screwdriver
