More people have fought and killed in the name of communism than religion. Even if you go back in history you can learn that most wars, invasions and the like was due to one man's pride or the thought that one group was superior to another. The number of people killed in the name of a god cannot come close to this.
Some groups, however, use religion as a political and military tool to attain their goal. That means that the fault lies in the person more than the god they claim to serve.

Another question would be how many people have been saved and helped in the name of religion? Who do you think started the Red Cross? Atheists? Did atheists start many universities? Use reason and logic to find that religion, Christianity in particular, has made great contributions to society.

i agree, with what quincy had to say"religion has failed has a force for peace".Dr.Radhakrishnan has quoted in his book 'Religion & culture' that religion is by one's conduct and not by one's belief. how true that is.the problem is not the religion, its the people. earlier there were aryans and dravidians then it became one has hindu.after that it was shiva followers and vishnu followers and so on.later came the caste system of 4,now there is sub caste.
prophet muhammed found islam,it was his follwers after his death seggregated as shias and sunnis.
there is only one jesus, who made catholics(roman catholic,syrian......),protestants......?????
if u take any religion there is a sub in that, though the belief is the same-whta they follow is different.even that is acceptable.but the problem starts when it is forced upon someone to follow the same method.everybody wants to dominate.its the sick attitude of dominating others.
earlier it was the rulers who mislead people but what about now, people are more educatednow, they know what is good-bad,they know difference b/w right and wrong.comparatively blood shed is more now than before.even the religious leaders instead of talking on similarities, they are busy talking about differences and proving that there's the superior one.few months back there was a open discussion on hindu muslim religion-by famous religious leaders.i realy did appreciated the way islam leader spoke.he compared upanishads,bible,quran-not just narrating but with tiny details starting from the chapter no.he did take the effort to go through evry holy book.what's the use.two of my friends who were the closest friends(for 12yrs) are blood thirst enemies today.muslim friend was so inspired to what the leaderhad to say,and christian frien arguing that was not true.there was no end to it.i'm sure that day thousand of them started having problems later on.this is how every religious fight starts
enough of blood is shedin tah name of religion.why wouldn't that leader insteadof talking about differences speak about similarities.i can prove hindu as the best rligion at the same time i can prove its not ,same way i can prove islam is the bestand also prove how cruel the religion could be-same way with the christanity and everything else.whenever anew religion formed the cause was good.it was necessary at that time, for that situation.but later on followers create a new problem.today religion is become a marketing business.just that the strategies and the way sales happen is different in religion to religion.
God did not ask forthis.Every god whatever the religion is ,says that-have faith in me.believe in me.without that basic people is busy proving others wrong.there is no end to this close minded, silly attitude of oneself.
god did not create a religion.its people who did that.siddharth found the truth of life and preached what is the right path and what should be done and what should not be.buddhism was formed later.like i said cause is always right and the result even thje person who started did not imagine.guru1 wanted to get hindus and muslims closer to each other(early days in india),later on a new religion started-sikh religion.
who is people.we are.we make the society.its responsibilty of each one of us to start doing some thing aboput instaed of waiting for some miracle to happen.
Religion is just a path to reach god.it itself is not god.whatever path u choose u will reach god but when u try to drag others to u'repath neither u will move further nor u will let otheres move.
today there are lot of issues in the world to worry about to fight for.fo example we should fight against poverty, global warming, corruption and the list goes on.why cant people show the same interest and energy towards these things.
I fast on mondays for shiva,i go to infant jesus church, even today when someone gets sick at home,we goto mosque to get thawiz.its the belief.itsnot the religion.i believe and also follow what buddha had preached,i also believe in some of the things (could be a myth or a superstion but i do follow some)ingreek and egyptian civilization.i don't know if i'm a pagan, hindu, christian, muslim or.........
its a high time we sholud do somthing about it.
it hurts to see people die in the name of god.i'm sure it will be painfull god also.
my intention is not to hurt anybody's feeling or i'm not trying tell eveybody should follow all the religion but all i'm saying to maintaion peace.let us not fight in the name of god.people who kill innocents and fight in the name of religion and god are actually mentally sick.they should need help.they should besent to asylum to the emergency ward.

Simply because there are very few people who really understand their religion, their belief. Most of the people simply follow the traditions and never think about it. People are more inclined towards apparent rituals than the actual philosophy. Philosophy may remain as it is for centuries but the rules and regulations given to the followers in order to protect a society need reformations time to time. These reformations are hardly done and even if some body tries they are hardly followed.

Nobody fights "ON' the name of the religion!
The planet of earth has been converted into an 'inferno' by people fighting 'in ' the name of the religion!
As long as they considered "religion' as a personal set of
religious attitudes, beliefs and practices , all was well with the world.
Thanks to the emergence of "religio-political" and" politico- religious' leaders, 'religion' has got transformed into an"institutionalized sytem of beliefs, attitudes and rituals.!And uninhibited brainwashing of the youth about the greatness of their own religion. history and heritage, has led to fanning communal hatred and triggering communal carnages! The poison has gone too deep and reclamation of any youth looks almost impossible!
The light at the end of the dark tunnel suggests that the Govt has to boldly declare that in a " secular state". the Government has to be neutral and hence would not tolerate
religion affecting public's interests..The law will find its own course., as and when public safety is thereatened.

I personaly believe every person wants to believe in something and what they have set their hopes in they hope is correct and will fight for their belief whether wrong or right. Whether it be Biblical, satanism (keep him small), WICCA, JW, Islam, Budda everyone believes in their way being right and they will not accept any other until something can truly show them that their belief systems are false. Most religions have come from the Christian and Jewish faith and have their roots there. But just like satan in the garden deceiving Eve many departed. That is each persons God given right and He does not violate the will. Many countries dictate what religion others must serve publicly and many hide in the closet to practice other religions. Sad they can not choose who they will serve. Even sadder that the one's who can choose don't educate them selves except what some author has written and never check out the facts.

As per my perception

Any person who fights in the name of a religion know neither anything about his religion nor about the other religion

They will not fight for just some rich guy wanting to become richer. They will fight for a belief or against a belief. This is what rulers found out long ago.

That is also why Jesus protected his people by telling that his people are no part of the world just as I am no part of the world. (John 15:19, 20; 17:16) We are to avoid mixing in with such fighting or nationalism as they lead to no good outcome.

Every religion shows the path of self purification.People choose different paths to achieve the common goal. By fighting within ourselves in the name of religion , we deviate ourselves from our goals. So we can say those people who fights in the name of religion doesnt believe in GOD (their god) or they have not known their religion properly.

They seek priority....Because they dont have any tolerence..
Religion is formed by Human and not by GOD...Its created to mould the human race...If any religion makes the men to fight...then its not a religion at all.

Not really a fair question. There are actions and then there are reactions. Those who react to extreme provocations or simply defend themselves cannot be accused of fighting in the name of religion.
