I'm just taking for example Leviticus 12:1-8.

If your Priest/ Minister/Chaplain/Spiritual Guide told you to do "all that".. would you sacrifice these doves?

I mean.. we don't do that stuff do we... it's just not relevant... so if not that.... why cherry pick the other bits you think you'd like to keep.... to the extent of finger pointing at people who don't hold the same opinion? Is it all or nothign? Or is it OK to cherry pick from the Old Testament the bits we think are awright?

Here is a quote that may frame this discussion:

To pray, I think, does not mean to think about God in contrast to thinking about other things, or to spend time with God instead of spending time with other people. Rather, it means to think and live in the presence of God. As soon as we begin to divide our thoughts about God and thoughts about people and events, we remove God from our daily life and put him into a pious little niche where we can think pious thoughts and experience pious feelings. ... Although it is important and even indispensable for the spiritual life to set apart time for God and God alone, prayer can only become unceasing prayer when all our thoughts -- beautiful or ugly, high or low, proud or shameful, sorrowful or joyful -- can be thought in the presence of God. ... Thus, converting our unceasing thinking into unceasing prayer moves us from a self-centered monologue to a God-centered dialogue. – Henri Nouwen

If so GREAT, Continue to read and study His love letter to us, spend more time with Him, and spend time with others who know Him. If you don't, read his love letter to us, spend time with HIM, and spend time with others who know GOD. Seek Him, He is waiting.

Is there anything wrong with optimism. Is there anything wrong with believing that there is more to your life then just one short time on Earth? Hope brightens people's lives and yet you don't want it?

I mean, think of the benefits; all those crazy Muslims would no longer be able to procreate, neither will those wacko Christians who protest outside abortion clinics and no more of those pesky Mormons banging on doors trying to sell their ridiculous beliefs. It would be a beautiful world with rainbows and fluffy bunnies jumping happily around. The fears of global warming and pollution would dissipate because the human population would be much less and only decent, sane people would be contributing to the human gene pool. It truly would be a wonderful world, don’t you think?

Oh, and deciding who can and can’t procreate via a democratic process would take far too long and there would be too much emphasis on political correctness, so the decision should be made by just one person. I could be that person; I mean, I did have plans but I can put them on hold…

I just read another failure to understand Evolution. This "Christian," in all his ignorance, suggested "if you want to believe you came from a Dog, go ahead"

1) That is not evolution, that is a misunderstanding.

2) Do you understand evolution? Do you understand the process from beginning to end? Why is it so many of you get this idea we ARE monkeys? Monkeys are merely our closest ancestors. At some point in history, we went a different direction which is why we are here and they are there.

Much the same, do you understand the reason a Bird and a Giraffe look different is because, when they were just small cells, a single tiny change ends up with HUGE consequences in the end?

Imagine a small organism developing a lump and another doesn't. Imagine that lump growing over millions of years and in different ways and compare it to the lumpless organism and ITS change - slightly different - why do you fail to understand evolution?

It seems believers like to believe what's convinient for them, apparently God helps people's lives, people try to justify god by saying "I know god answers my prayers", so the all loving god will help us get a date on friday night but won't help the millions of starving hungry children, whenever something good happens it seems to be god whereas the bad things are apparently down to ourselves. My personal favourite is "When my wife died 2 years ago, I wouldn't of got through it only for god", it makes me laught, if a thug robbed you for your cellphone but let you keep the simcard, should we thank them, Would we?

If my Forty-Niners could just win the Superbowl this year, I may just consider voting Republican in the up and coming elections.

So my question is... what would it take for some of you other atheists to make a similar concession?

A Pyramid must be built to escape,
Each level up you know your progress,
Climbing steadily you reach the top,
Insights abound when not caught in the trap of dogma,
Leaving the ashes behind you fly as the Phoenix,
How does it feel to see in all directions?

Much thanks to Jim Morrison for the seed of this question.

Question - A God that says "Pride is a sin" would not say "come worship me."

My question is, why are you worshipping someone who informs you that pride is a sin?

Think of it in realistic, real life terms - you play for a sports team, you work for a company, etc. One of the employees/teammates is really good - would you prefer him reinforce how good he is with "I'm the reason we're doing so good, protect me, worship me and my skills" or would you prefer he say nothing at all and encourage others success?

Nobody likes arrogance, but I'm confused why so many worship a God that, really, in his own words, would suggest not to.

The thing is I don’t think they’re your foes. The real foe is in your mind for you have foreseen the downfall of your religion and this is what makes you lash out at people who are merely offering logic and reason to your belief befuddled minds.
