Does anyone consider wearing a wedding ring just jewelry verses a symbol of marrige?

If America is a Christian country (84 percent claim the big C) why are we capitalists? Jesus was definitely a staunch opponent of capitalism and even said that it was hard for rich men to get into heaven. He also was very much against individualism... if this is so, how is it possible that a nation known for all those things is considered a Christian nation? (Please if you are answering this to be mad... don't answer it, this is not an insult against Americans, which I am, or Christians, which I am not.) I just want to hear some real arguments but not "Well you aren't a Christian!!" and crud like that. I want to hear someone answer the question with something intelligent.

Wouldn't it be nice if when an Atheist tried to came on their computer would blow up. Every one pray and God will make it like that for you.

To put this question in context, I was raised in a religious family and the religion was not what I would consider a pleasant one. Some would call it a cult. Many of their teachings left me hurt
and confused, as did the upbringing I had. It took me a long time to begin to heal.
I often feel that I need answers. But the members of that religion, especially on this forum, either tell me to be quiet (they even sent me emails telling me to 'be silent') or refuse to comment. My mother won't discuss it with me either.

So what do you do, when you have unresolved issues which you need answers to in order to move on, but you are denied those answers?

so god makes you, and you are born cause of your mom right? okay and you will go to hell for committing a sin right? but just by being born you are already guilty of the original sin even though you had nothing to do with it. and the only way to save yourself is to believe in god, follow the commandments, not sin and accept Jesus christ. so technically arent we being set up so that we have to follow his rules?

Why do we assume that god is inherently good?
Why do we assume that god would have our best interest in mind?
Maybe god is indifferent to human conditions...
With all his power and the cosmos to wander, why would he waste time on such trivial matters like human events?

How do we know theres only one god, when countless religions seem to be convinced of hundreds of entities?
How do we know god isn't imperfect? The Greek gods reflected vengeance, desire, and human qualities...

If you claim to know or have the answers, how can you be sure?
Did you have direct contact? Do you have irrefutable proof?

Would it be the most famous person here of that religion? Or a person you consider to be the most intellectual? Would you chose the person who has attacked your religion the most? Dont bother saying stuff like, "I don't want to force people to convert" or "I would like to save everyone" that ruins the fun of it.

I suppose I should pick one...... Hmmm.... I'm not sure if this is the right screen name, but Path of Reason??? Something like that. Respectful person, or at least from what I've seen.

Just wondering, because I see a lot of "christian" and "religious" bashing in here.
Every time a christian or religious person states what they believe the non religious people attack them call them morons delusional etc..
so did I miss a law or a memo that it's okay to be closed minded and mock others who are religious?
shouldn't we respect what others "chose" to believe or not?
how can we say we are open minded non brainwashed free thinkers if we are on a campaign to disrespect belittle and mock others heart felt convictions.
I mean isn't that what the Intelligent educated great thinkers taught us?
we may not agree but we should "let freedom ring"

They don't agree with or won't accept what is God's order. Such as protecting all human life and the sanctity of marriage.
We did not make reality, God did - the things we know are from his creative hand - so why the opposition to try to meet our broken needs?
We did not make things the way they are, and we are wise to be aligned with the One who did.

Okay for something to be considered a sin, it has to be bad right?

Its not right to take a life because you will not only deprive the other person of a life, but you'll hurt those who loved them as well (there's more but just as an example)

Its not right to cheat because thats how a person stops loving the one they're with and they slowly start loving the person they're cheating with and in the end can hurt the person they're with now

Its bad to steal because youre taking something that isnt yours or that belongs to somebody else and it could very well be something that means a lot to them so you could somehow hurt them.

Its bad to lie because sometimes you could lead a person on or they think they know who you are and when they find out what youre really like, it might not be what they wanted. Basically youre deceiving.

I could go on and on, however I want to ask this

What is wrong with people who have premaritial sex or that are gay? Who exactly are they hurting?

That Christianity is wrong? Who's to say it's right? People should believe what they want to believe instead of attempting to change others' beliefs. Stop "Witnessing" and people will like you more. Because you don't push your religion on them. Who else can comprehend what i'm saying?

Was there a need, some questions, ... something that faith was providing, that now you are filling with something not-religious ? Or someone who was helpful in giving you some reference, moral ground, that you are now looking for outside of religion ?
Like: sports, community, education, science, friends, chatting,
family, martial arts, getting more confidence in yourself, ... ?
