Wrong country. It's Saudi Arabia.

Despite a series of initiatives aimed at generating foreign tourism, the Saudi Arabian government continues to bar Jews and Christians from bringing items such as Bibles, crucifixes and Stars of David into the country and is threatening to confiscate them on sight.

There are lots of Churches, monasteries, Bibles, all over Israel. The Birth of Jesus Christ. yet, not one church in all of Saudi Arabia. Not one.

It isn't illegal to have a Bible in Israel, but evangelizing for the Christian faith in Israel is strongly 'frowned upon."
In a July 21, 2007 article in THE CHRISTIAN POST concerning Christian programs being broadcast in Israel:
"...an Israeli political party had introduced a legislation in the Knesset which would punish someone for sharing the Gospel in Israel for up to a one-year prison sentence." Further, "...Israel had never granted a license for a 100 percent Christian Channel to broadcast into all of Israel, according to Marcus D. Lamb, president of Daystar Television Network." “Up until now, it has either been: illegal, impossible, or impractical,”
The July, 2007 issue of HEARTBEAT ISRAEL stated, "...the proposed bill would ban the production, importation, distribution and possession of any literature intended to convince someone to change religion. The use of Isaiah 53 along with many other passages from the Hebrew Scriptures, as well as the New Testament, tracts and other Gospel literature, seem to fit this definition. The bill would close Bible bookstores and stop public distribution of any literature intended to introduce the recipient to the Messiah. It would delegitimize the Messianic publishing houses in Israel. And it could remove the legal standing of Messianic congregations and other ministries in the Land. For American Christians visiting Israel, the law would make it illegal to give a tract to a guide or anyone else met on a tour."
As an aside, the last time I was in Israel (1985) I was visiting the Eastern Wall and was invited by a Rabbi there to join in their prayer time. I told him I wasn't Jewish but a Christian and he handed me a paper Yarmulke and took me by the arm to stand with him during the prayer. I didn't understand the words, but the meaning was very strong. I noticed the Rabbi had tears in his eyes and this cause my vision to blur also. What ever he was praying about must have been very imortant to him. I prayed my prayers also.
