And I'm not talking reality talent-shows on North American TV.

I remember once a priest told me that the reason the 1st commandment was about not having idols "before" God, was because that was the most basic of all sins.

Lately, I think the Holy Spirit is teaching me more about the idols in my life: my comfort, my weight/vanity, my pride.

If whatever gets in the way of our communion with God is in some way an idol, what are the idols that you are contending with in your life right now?

As a man accused of crimes is placed infront of a firing squad and then told that if released he will be allowed to exist if he comples to The State of Laws, so too has Christianity compiled an array of Laws that one must follow in-order-to avoid HELL. A threat that reveals a GOD of little faith in his creation MAN! "Oh Chosen Children follow me and you will be rewarded with heaven; but break my rules and you willbe thrust into the lake of fire!" That's YOUR Loving God. The Creator of sAtAn, the originator of sin, FOR ALL THINGS EXIST BECAUSE OF HIM. Now onto the real issue. Is America supposed to be held with a Gun to its head because Christians want what they believe is the TRUTH as described in Their religious manuscript The Bible-which has failed EVERY GOVERNMENT THAT IT WAS USED TO GOVERN. Jesus is a KING according to you. Well my fellow American, WE THE PEOPLE escaped from Kings in order to form a more perfect union. But you would have our Constitution Crucified! Stupid?

i have been reading up on this word and the holiday (which we know comes from paganism - we still do a lot of it), but did you know this?

Christ Mass - Death of Christ - the word mass also means eating the flesh of your sacrificed god, which is what Roman Catholics believe they do during the eucharist (lord's supper/communion)

I also just read that mass can mean "dismissal" - which would make Merry Christmas mean the dismissal of Christ.

Does anyone else have any knowledge about the origin of this word or origin of this holiday?

I have always celebrated Christmas, but may begin doing it differently after this knowledge. :) Thanks for any info.

I know that mankind has always been violent; these people just can’t seem to stop trying to kill people in every part of the world. They have been involved in bloody conflicts all over the world for how long? Come on, don’t give me this muslims are peaceful bit. There are 2 kinds of muslims. Those that hate everyone; and those that hate everyone and just don’t say anything about it.
They hate Americans, Europeans, all other religions, and even each other. I seriously wonder if I’m not the only one that thinks the world as a whole would be far better off without them.

When I was Christian... born and raised... if someone was new to Christianity, the Christian community as a whole couldn't get enough of this person... they'd give Bibles, explain inconsistencies, whatever they could to get this person to know Jesus.

As a pagan, if someone is new to paganism (I've only been on this path for two years myself) they're called "fluffy bunny" and basically told how stupid they are to the path they've decided to follow and learn about.

As pagans who are already trying to turn people's ideas around about what exactly it is that we do and do not believe in, isn't it odd that when someone comes to the pagan community to learn more, many pagans will automatically assume they're only learning it because it's a rebellious period in their life or because it's a fad?

My question is... shouldn't we embrace "newbies" rather than constantly remind them that they're ignorant of the pagan ways? Why do we, as pagans who claim tolerance, do this to others?

What's your reaction to this story:

LONDON - London's Science Museum canceled a Friday talk by Nobel Prize-winning geneticist James Watson after the co-discoverer of DNA's structure told a newspaper that Africans and Europeans had different levels of intelligence.

James Watson provoked widespread outrage with his comments to The Sunday Times, which quoted the 79-year-old American as saying he was "inherently gloomy about the prospect of Africa" because "all our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence is the same as ours — whereas all the testing says not really."

He told the paper he hoped that everyone was equal, but added: "people who have to deal with black employees find this not true."

The comments drew condemnation from British lawmakers, scientists, and civil rights campaigners. On Wednesday The Independent newspaper put Watson on its front page, against the words: "Africans are less intelligent than Westerners, says DNA pioneer."

People are always assuming I'm some kind of hippie vegan because I have compassion for animals. That is such a fallacy. I eat meat. But I don't use that as an excuse to inflict unnecessary suffering on another living creature.

The manner in which we kill an animal and the manner in which we treat it while it's still alive is important.

Do you post just to harass and annoy JWs who read these boards, or to bring sincere enlightenment on an issue about which you're passionate to anyone who cares to read your story?

I, for one, post here because this is a place for people to discuss religious issues that matter to them, this topic being important to me. Issues of Ex-JWs -are- religious issues, despite what anyone believes. Also, I believe it's important as a Christian to expose the underbelly of a religion of which I have first hand knowledge. This is a forum in which to do so.

I truly don't see the issue, as annoyed as anyone may get reading something that doesn't sit well with them. As annoyed as I get reading some of the other topics in here, I defend their right to post whatever's important to them.

Your thoughts, dear readers?

I am in love with a Muslim man, and I am Jewish. I have an Israeli father. I wish the whole problem could be told in detail, but I am sure you guys see the main point. He went to speak to my father, my father said "I will die before this happens", I quit my job (b/c he was my boss), and went to Israel for the summer hoping to get over him which didn't work. My relationship with my mother has suffered dramatically. He is the most amazing person I have ever met, and I think stopping 2 people who love each other from being together bc of religion is contributing to the racism and hate going on in the world. I always felt in my heart that I wanted to make a difference, and I know I won't change the world, but it is a step.

I have amazing parents who do everything for me. This is the first time they have said no to anything. I am 21 yrs old. I don't know what to do, I am in so much pain and I am completely confused. Have you ever defied your parents in a huge way? Any advice?

But not from Man but from the 4 Horses of the Apocalypse
The four horsemen are symbolic descriptions of different events which will take place in the end times. The first horseman of the apocalypse is mentioned in Revelation 6:2,
Revelation 6:4, "Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make men slay each other. To him was given a large sword." The second horseman refers to terrible warfare that will break out in the end times
The fourth horseman is mentioned in Revelation 6:8, "I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth." The fourth horseman of the apocalypse is symbolic of death and devastation.

Many people believe that it is unscientific to believe the Bible. If this is true, however, then the following people were unscientific: Isaac Newton, Johann Kepler, Robert Boyle, Lord Kelvin, Louis Pasteur, Matthew Maury, Michael Faraday, Clerk Maxwell, John Ray, and Carolus Linnaeus. All of these great scientists believed the Bible, including the miracles recorded within it. In fact, they were creationists, as were almost all scientists before the time of Charles Darwin, whose Origin of Species was not published until 1859.

protestants say there is no pope because the word "pope" is not in the bible.

protestants say there is no praying to saints because the words "pray to saints" are not in the bible.

protestants say there is no Transubstantiation because the word "Transubstantiation" is not in the bible.

So, protestants...

Why do you believe in the Trinity when the word "Trinity" is not in the Bible?

Why do you believe in the incarnation of Christ when the word "incarnation" is not in the Bible?

Why do you believe there are 27 books in the New Testament when nowhere in the Bible does it say there should be 27 books in the New Testament?

Why do you say we must accept Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior when the phrase "accept Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior" is nowhere in the Bible?

Why do you say we're saved by faith alone when the Bible says: "You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone" (James 2:24) ?

Where is all THAT in the Bible?
