So I recently sent an e-mail to a past teacher of mine I'm still in touch with, telling her I'm an atheist and telling her exactly how I feel about religion, some Christians, and why people cling to religious beliefs. OK so she's a Christian and she said that in my e-mail, I sound exactly like the "intolerant religious people" that I despise so much because I was "attacking" people's beliefs. She said I should be objective.

Anyway, my question is, if the intolerant religious people are able to attack me and my beliefs every damn day, why shouldn't I be able to return the favor. Why do I have to be the bigger person, shouldn't we be able to fight fire with fire? Isn't that the only way we can shut them up, obviously ignoring it or being the bigger person isn't changing things. In a perfect world we could all just be tolerant, but since that isn't the case, isn't it best to be just as ruthless as they are?

Scripture and Tradition

"I commend you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions even as I have delivered them to you" (1 Cor. 11:2).

"Follow the pattern of the sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus; guard the truth that has been entrusted to you by the Holy Spirit who dwells within us" (2 Tim. 1:13-14).

"So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by letter." (2 Thess. 2:15)

"You, then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and what you have heard from me before many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also" (2 Tim. 2:1-2).

"First of all you must understand this, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, because no prophecy ever came by the impulse of man, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God" (2 Peter 1:20-21).

"‘Though I have much to write to you, I would rather not use paper and ink, but I hope to come to see you and talk with you face to face, so that our joy may be complete" (2 John 12).

As I ask questions, I find time & again Christians simply don't see the folly of their ways.

It takes patience and understanding to help them see reality. It takes time, and until they understand we should do our best to guide them with a gentle hand... If we don't, they'll interpret our frustration and outlashing as evil from their devil, only reinforcing their mysticism.

If you become a muslim you can go to heaven. On the other hand, if you don't become a muslim you will be decapitated.

I have a feeling that a lot of people would choose option B.

First of all, I want to point out that I don't view the book of Revelation as prophecy, and most of the things I'm about to mention aren't strictly scriptural, but speculation in the style of Tim LaHaye, et al.

Many people believe that the tribulation period will involve the institution of a "one world religion", which involves viewing the anti-christ as God and taking the mark of the beast. And most people assume that newly converted believers will be standing alone against the anti-christ's regime.

But what about atheists? Atheists aren't inclined to subscribe to any particular religion now, why would they be likely to follow the "one world religion" of the future?

If the "end-times" were to play out in this particular fashion, is it possible that Christians and atheists would find themselves allies against an oppressive dictator?

I present a challenge to you, it is simple in theory but difficult in practice. Prove that God did not create man or the UNIVERSE. How did something come from nothing? I'll be waiting for your intelligent and well thought out answers. You see, I do not doubt your intelligence, only your reasons for disbelieving in God.

How could they get into the celestial kingdom?

For that matter why do you think God requires secret handshakes (tokens) to get into His presence? DOn't you think He is more concerned with the heart? I mean, if someone is good and trusts in the Lord- do you really think they will be excluded because they don't know the "secret handshake?"

At two of our local cemetaries I have seen headstones with an engraved tilted cross. It is not completely on its side. Any idea what this means?

I can't take credit for this, I read it on a message board. But it sums up my beliefs very well:

"It's sad that in times when we are more globally connected than ever before, we choose to isolate ourselves and our children over stuff like this. Because, really, what does it matter? Why do I care why my neighbor treats me with respect and dignity, whether because he thinks me a child of God or a merely a fellow human, so long as they do in fact treat me with respect and dignity? And me them. It's the actions that matter, not the beliefs."

In Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossilbe to please Him: for he who comest to God must believe that He Is & that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.

Then there is the faith of Noah, Abraham, Sarah, & others in Hebrew11.

Is faith in God to hear God & then to trust & obey God?

...people with free will, living in a world just like this one...only the world wouldn't contain evil, suffering, dying, or death...

If I can do that so easily, and I had all the power of God...Why didn't "God" do it that way?

(If your answer is "He has his reasons,"...they're not very good ones...If your answer is that "You cannot imagine what you claimed to be able to imagine"...well...I just did by telling you about it...If your answer is "There are things we were not meant to know or understand, or are capable of understanding..." Then...again...God messed up...cause I can imagine reasons why there would "be" no reason for us not to know or understand...)

So what it is, religious people...? If "I" can imagine all that, and the proof is that I just told you that I can by telling you about it...Why did God not do it that way also?

If it's that easy for me...it would have to be even easier for Him...Get it?!? The answer would be...He messed up...
