There are many thousands of Catholic churches not built in the Gothic style .

Yes.

In Catholicism, the Church is:
+ The People that God gathers in the whole world
+ The local diocese
+ The liturgical assembly (at Mass or other service)

A church is a building where "the" Church comes together to worship God.
