I present a challenge to you, it is simple in theory but difficult in practice. Prove that God did not create man or the UNIVERSE. How did something come from nothing? I'll be waiting for your intelligent and well thought out answers. You see, I do not doubt your intelligence, only your reasons for disbelieving in God.

~sigh...
OK.
In my faith, it is stated that God existed since the beginning. He always was and always shall be. Kind of hard to prove (its called faith).
As to the creation of the universe by Gods hand. I look at all that exists and see proof. I see the stars in the night sky and feel the gentle breeze. Witness the wonder of birth and mourn loss in death (physical not spiritual death). I observe the intricacies of the galaxy and the magnificent precision that it is.
This at least to me is the proof that God is.
I look to His promises and see that they have come to fullfillment and rejoice in them.
It can be hard to understand I know.
For you folks I'll direct you to a book titled: "The Case for the Creator" by Lee Strobel an ex-atheist. Check it out.

Typical answers...they always dodge that question with a question or simply dismissing it

My answer to: how did God come from nothing?

If God had a creator, who created him? and who created that creator and so forth, the question will never end. So I believe God always existed just like atheists claim atoms, gases etc always have..so, why don't I believe their assumption makes more sense? Because it is way more unlikely for a bunch of substances to 1. come out of nothing and 2. ACCIDENTALY but gradually (on it's own) create what now surrounds us.

It's just like saying an artist did not create a masterpiece, the materials gradually evolved into an art work...what are the odds of that??

Claiming that "something can come from nothing" because of the actions of a thing you call "god" is no improvement at all over saying that "something came from nothing" for no reason at all.

Its basically taking something you don't understand and saying that if you don't know how it happened, it must have been caused by "magic". Congratulations - your level of logical reasoning is on par with the average ignorant savage.

At any rate, in the Big Bang theory, it is not claimed that "something" came from "nothing". It appears that the "something" was, at that point in time, condensed down to a singularity and then it sort of exploded. There was "stuff" before this happened but we can't tell exactly what it was like.

Also, the existence of the universe definitely doesn't prove the existence of your particular god in any way. If a god did create everything, it could have been any god. There are an infinite number of possible gods that could have created the universe.

The odds of you having actually chosen a religion that worships the real "creator" god can therefor be calculated by dividing your 1 choice by the infinite number of possible gods. This produces a result so incredibly small that it can pretty much be considered to be a 0% chance. In other words, it is impossible that you actually worship a god that created the universe.

Of course, the 0% chance is made even more obvious when one takes into consideration all the ludicrous and self-contradictory components of your religion.

Rather than making up a god that has all the asinine baggage that has been attributed to the Jehovah concept, you would be better off just flushing all of the christian stuff down the toilet and starting over again with a fresh, clean "god".

If you strongly feel that there had to be a creator, then fine, worship this creator god. However, don't pretend you actually know the name, the characteristics, the desires, or anything else about that god - because you do not. When you say that you do, you are lying, (to both yourself and everyone else). ...and calling it "faith" doesn't excuse it. That simply means that your definition of the word "faith" is synonymous with the definition of the word "lie".

One, other thing - before you ask a question on Yahoo Answers, why don't you do a search on previously asked questions to see if someone else has asked the same question before? You can just read all the answers they got. I can guarantee your "challenge" has been seen on here hundreds of times. If you think that you are either original or clever for coming up with this "challenge", you are sadly mistaken.

In fact, most of the people that answer this question are probably just cutting and pasting their answer from the last time some dolt tried to use this pathetic argument to show us how wise he was, (which probably would have been less than 24 hours ago).

There are no ex-atheists...they just weren't really sincere in their belief....

As for your challenge...if you are trying to look for reason, then you have picked the wrong question. It is scientifically unacceptable to prove a negative. Proving something isn't in existence is not part of the scientific method. What you can do is prove something exists, using observable data. That's an intelligent, reasoned approach, and it won't work with this question at all.

The question remains, though, how did something come from nothing...and right now, we don't have an answer for it. It is still true, though, that the absence of data does not prove a postulate.

In otherwords, the lack of data showing how something came from nothing does not prove that God must then be the answer. You can never prove a negative. You can only prove a positive, which can then provide a certain amount of probabilty that something else didn't occur.

Not even simple in theory. I cannot prove that God did not create everything just as you cannot prove it did. Far greater minds than any you will find here have been grappling with this issue for as long as humans have been around. As for my reasons, I do not get why you doubt it when I say my reason for not believing is the absolute lack of empirical evidence for the existence of a god. Can't you just accept the fact that I base my beliefs on the tangible?

You know...there is just so much vile out there in the world. We live amongst a foolish generation. Many fall to the wayside. Even those that say they are Christians don't even know him. They just go to a 2 hour service a couple times a month and they think they're on the bandwagon. These are scary times my friend. Atheists can't prove anything and the theory of the origin of life keeps changing. Well, I hope they can find Him before the end. Eternity is such a very long time.

And yet you believe some magical super being created everything from nothing. So to quote you "How did something come from nothing?"

You cannot prove, or disprove, the existence or non-existence of god or divine creation of the universe. But of the available theories, it is clearly the least likely...

When you say "How did something come from nothing", I assume you mean how did life come from no life, correct? In laymen's terms, the generally accepted theory is that conditions in the primitive earth several billion years ago were adequate to create simple forms of organic matter (amino acid chains), through means of chemical changes in certain elements that were already present (oxygen, nitrogen, carbon, hydrogen - combining in different ways), which most likely, lighning caused (electricity is a good stimulator for chemical changes).

So in all reality, life on earth didn't happen by chance, like some claim atheists belive. In fact, according to the conditions on earth, it was bound to happen. Once you have that first ammino acid string (and eventually proteins), you have the basis for all life and cells to form. When you thinnk about it like this, there is no god involved. Life simply took its course.

P.S. I belive there was an expirement done on this before that got positive results - The Miller-Urey Expirement. You should google it.

P.P.S Duh! I can't believe I answered your question wrong! It was about the universe, not just life on earth. For that, my friend, I cannot answer. I do not claim to know all, for that is wayyyy beyond the scope of human intelligence or imagination (the origion of the universe). I am pretty confident that it wasn't created specifically for humans by god in 6 days, though.

God does not win by default. His existence is not the *default* assumption. If we are to conduct ourselves rationally, we have to examine *natural* explanations before we even consider *supernatural* explanations. So, to put it bluntly, you must prove that man did not evolve from animals before we look for your God for answers.

"How did something come from nothing?"
theists forget that this applies to God too. Everything has a beginning and an end. Where does god come from?

If God needs no creator, why does life need a designer?

I'm not an atheist but I can see the many flaws in your logic. By the same token, an atheist could present you with the same exact challenge. If they asked you to prove that God DID create man or the universe then you would be in the same exact boat.

It is impossible to prove a negative. God does not exist, which is a negative. The onus is on you to prove that god exists and when you have done so your question will become valid and worth considering.

PUT UP OR SHUT UP

As for "something coming from nothing", read the maths and physics for yourself. Why should I bother to explain the Big Bang Theory to you when you won't bother to read it.

NOTE: Scientific Theory = Model of a set of circumstances which fits all known facts
